The setting: 40 degrees, dropping to 37 degrees, rain and sleet for two hours at a football game

The subject: Russet Vincenza HH

First two pics are immediately upon getting in my car. Next two are the same areas of the jacket after approximately 30 minutes, final pictures taken at around 60 minutes. Jacket was drying in the car while wearing and at home at room temperature laying on a carpet. All photos taken with flash.

Pretty sure he is just showing us how the veg tanned leather responds to getting wet.

Thanks for doing this Pawineguy, it has been implied a few times that water will permanently stain veg tanned leather....very happy to see it isn't the case.

Sorry P, not sure what your point is.

I suppose I could have posted either a conclusion or an introduction. Because this is a new leather to Thurston/Aero, and there have been multiple questions asked about how it would handle the rain compared to say, CXL HH, I decided to get it wet and find out. The photos show the spotting that's expected on veggie tanned leather, and then the fading of the spots back to the original color. Perhaps it's out of context without seeing the questions that have been raised previously about how it would handle the rain.

What he said ^. And I'm sure you're one of the interested parties to this, Protein...

Thanks a lot pawnie. I have a jacket in this hide and it is very nice to see how it will respond.

Thanks a lot @pawineguy.. I was one of the people asking about this as I wanted to wear mine where there was a possibility of it getting a little wet.. This looks very promising...

Good information! Well documented with pics. Very thorough. And, having a jacket in the Italian Vincenza on order, good news indeed. Thanks.

For the longest time I told myself to avoid veg tanned leather because I wasn't sure how it'd do in the rain. I was particularly worried about the jacket shrinking over time, or being more prone to rot, from what I read on the forums. I don't know how realistic these fears were. But then it dawned on me that there were thousands of people happily wearing jackets with veg tanned leather, who wore their jackets without worry, and if I denied myself this beautiful leather it would be a tragedy. Life's too short.

For me personally, I wouldn't subject any veg tanned jacket to HOT water though, after seeing this post where that leather sample shrunk substantially. If others have had success with HWT, I don't know.

Yeah, if that's the post I'm thinking about, I wouldn't pay attention to that. Honestly, any good quality leather jacket will look better for a bit of rain.

That was always my assumption which is why I decided to wear it for the game, I really didn't think I was taking a big risk with it. BTW, your A-2 looks fantastic.

I have never had any problems with veg tanned leather spotting on any of my jackets. And I live in Seattle!

I am getting one of Theodoros Horsehide jacket as well (in a different design to the A1 civilian style), so will get pictures posted of both very soon. There are a few pictures taken badly whenever I received the Goatskin jacket on a Thedi thread see a few pages in front. Cant speak highly enough of the jacket design and attention to detail and customer service. Having worn it for about 2 months now seeing how really good it is. Living in N.Ireland with the constant Rain would test any type of jacket and this one stands up to all elements.

20 odd years? Crikey, obviously we behave very differently at the pub, I would be arrested by the fedora lounge police for what my clothes go through on any Saturday night in rugby season, and secondly, how does your weight not change in 20 years? Your obviously some kind of Scottish vampire, you've definitely got some kind of Highlander thing going on....that's probably the original A2 issued to you before Normandy....;)

I held this Vincenza Russet sample in the rain for maybe three minutes and let it dry inside. It spotted quite a bit... [huh] Sample Spots.jpg
