The gorge is a little bit high, and the lapels look thick (fabric again!). Yes, I think the thick looking lapels are the aspect that reminds most, but still not necessarily, of the seventies. And the stripes they get in the photo.

It's definitely 1930s -- has the union tag from that era. The fabric is thick but soft and "gives", like wool yarn. I've seen this kind of fabric before in '30s sportcoats (and one suit!), but it's rare, because it wears out more quickly than "hard" wools do.

I think it will go well with cream ("white") flannel trousers, or wool khaki trousers (more olive than tan), either twill or flannel.

The colour in combination with the shirt's and the tie's colours reminds me more of the sixties than the seventies.

I agree with you 100%. The colors are more like those seen in the '60s and very early '70s. However, hours spent poring over 1930s Esquire magazines have shown me that such color combinations existed in the Golden Era, though they weren't necessarily popular.

I had a bit of luck at a Hollywood area "Goodwill" thrift store last month. Found a 1930s belted-back sportcoat in my size.

He had a bit of luck he says.
Now there's the understament of the week.

Nice one, Mr. Chevalier.

Just took a closer look at the fabric. Very sweet. I posted a suit (1949) a while ago in the thread there and it had very similar fabric.

an excellent (and exceptionally rare, no?) find. I've only ever seen pictures of these jackets - with the flap breast pocket. Excepting the 60s/70s ones, that is.

I think the flap breast pocket makes it look ahead of its time. Other than that, it's a swell coat. I wish I could find a belt-back job like that. I've never seen any type of belt-back/action-back coat ever. That's next on my list of things I need to get...
