Dry Cells

I remember those No. 6 dry cells from science class when we would do electrical experiments.

Chrysler AIRSTREAM!

As for locomotives, a 2-8-0 "Consolodation' is quite streamlined enough for my admittedly odd taste.

Pavarotti- although it would be a more interesting comparison if the sound technology in Lanza's day was the equivalent of what Pavarotti was recorded with.

What?

Lanza's recordings are quite modern, and can sound splendid when played on the proper equipment.
It is really pretty easy to gauge the quality of a male singer even when their only recordings are acoustic. Many female singers recorded well, too, though the soprano voice in particular was notoriously difficult to wax, and many ladies with great reputations are represented by only pallid echoes of their art (Nordica for example).

Lanza had a great instrument which he did not always use intellegently, and whilst his singing is impressive at times, there does not seem to be a great deal of art behind it. Many singers with mediocre instruemnts have made great careers indeed through their artistic interpretive skills (Mary Garden, for example) or through their great beauty and acting ability (Geraldine Farrar). I would prefer Pavarroti, but greatly prefer an older style of singing. IN Italian tenors, Gigli, Caruso (at times) Bonci, or Constantino.

Orvis or Filson?
