Good food in my family was mackerel bought off the back of a red wagon pulled up the street by a dirty-faced kid with fish scales under his fingernails and an oily cloud in the air surrounding him.

Fried fish or broiled fish?

The D-word has absolutely no appeal to me. There is nothing more dead-looking than a digital clock or watch that needs a new battery.
On the subject of watches

Rolex or Omega?

Mechanical or Quartz?

Pocket Watch or Wrist Watch?

Swatch or Russian watch?
Both are known for their quirky, garish designs, especially Vostok and Raketa in the case of the latter choice

Interesting to me as a Russian watch collector that the Plato clock was made in the US by the Ansonia Clock Company. In 1929 Ansonia went belly up and its machinery and tooling were bought up by Amtorg, a Soviet trading company based in New York and then shipped to Moscow where it formed the basis of the 1st Moscow Watch Factory which produced brands such as Poljot.

Today I happen to be carrying a size 14 Hampden watch. Hampden's factory and machinery were also purchased by AMTORG in the late 'Twenties and moved to the Soviet Union.

The Boston Cooking School one is great but you have to adjust for rationing and to taste. :p

Wittnauer or Hamilton?

I have only a few watches, Hampden, Illinois (Bunn Special), New York, Elgin National, E. Howard, and William Creak.

Of these two, I'd look for a Hamilton as being more representative.

I use them all, but if I had to rely on just one, I'd go with the Gold Cookbook, which is encyclopedic, covering everything from Salt Risin' Bread to Poulet Harlequin. I've NEVER had a failure from this book, which runs to 1080 pages and includes upwards of five thousand recipies. The book
sold very well in the late 1940's and early 1950's, so is very easy to find and quite inexpensive when found.
