I just love how bold and daring the new Thedi designs are this year.
Take the new MTC-127984 for example. Probably his busiest cafe jacket. It's a bit much... but I love it! It borrows the pin stripes from the Langlitz Cascade, and combines them with a D-pocket at chest level, reminiscent of the Lost Worlds Buco Rider. The shoulder and elbow padding is a bit refined over previous years. And are those open-gusset zippers on the cuffs? This looks like something you'd see in a movie, or in a rock star's wardrobe. Not many could truly pull it off. I think it's the most bad-ass thing I've seen in some time.
This is probably my second favorite of his designs, they offered this style last year, but this grey color puts a different twist on it, and I like it a lot.
Here's something I really haven't seen before, on the MTC-141159/9: diagonally aligned chest pockets. Ok this is maybe slightly gimmicky. But who else does this? I could see this really working in a red leather, two-toned, with a diagonal stripe in white across the chest incorporating the pockets. Or perhaps other color combos.
This green leather thing that he started with the "Greedo" jacket of last year... it looks like they're pushing it even further this year.
A few of the new designs are leather-textile combinations, which I don't think they've shown before. I can't say I like all of them, and generally I prefer all-leather to hybrid jackets, but this one is eye-catching.
It looks like they're experimenting and letting themselves take more risks this year. And good for them. I don't think there's a maker who has done more innovation year over year, or who excites me with their designs more, at the moment. There's so many high end makers that just do accurate reproductions of classic designs, and that's great, but it's also good that there's at least one who's actively pushing design in new directions.
Would I wear all of them? No... and good thing, too, my bank account couldn't take it if I would! Fortunately for my finances, though, I'm quite sated and satisfied with my recent acquisitions. After buying so many jackets recently, I should be. But I just love seeing what Thedi will come up with next.
