When i wear the white mink muff with the matching coat AND the vintate black velvet headband with white mink pom-poms, I look like Sonja Henje.

One of the vintage looks I have loved forever. Jools, you are my kind of person. I love girly stuff big time. Having so many brothers necessarily made me a tomboy as a child. I am making up for it now in many ways.

I have a fur collar, vintage, a velvet cape with a fur collar, and a faux fur sixties coat. I love all three dearly. All of them are vintage. I would not buy new fur but vintage to me is just saving another piece of history from the landfill. The collar was made locally so it is really dear to me. I also have a pill box hat, and rather large fur hat. both were also made locally.

My girlfriend wouldn't buy it- she doesn't like fur, but we all got one heck of a kick out of the monogramming inside a vintage fur coat we found at the value village.

Yay! My first post and on something I'm passionate about!

I would never ever ever ever ever ever wear fur. Why? when there are so many other cruelty free (and cheaper!) alternatives? I can't even touch it without feeling nauseous. No judgement intended on anyone who does wear it. I just choose to avoid animal products the best I can. Animals are sentient beings that feel pleasure and pain. Why would anyone knowingly cause pain to anything is beyond my comprehension.

Love!

P.S. thanks for all the wonderful information on the site!

On the thought of cheaper I only paid 5 dollars for my stole and my cape was free. Both are now not taking space in a landfill.

I second that, Cherry. Does not matter if it was killed (electrocuted/poisoned/strangled) yesterday or 50 years ago. It's still dead.

I don't have a problem with other people wearing vintage fur, but personally it just makes me uncomfortable. I don't wear real fur or leather, and I don't eat meat. I just makes me squeamish and I don't enjoy it. I do love the look of furs though, so I wear a lot of faux furs (including a faux fur stole that even has a cute little face on it). It lets me get that vintage look without compromising my ethics.

I have been considering getting one of these!

Well...I think we'd better keep the thread on track...as politics are banned from the forum, no? (I could be wrong on that). However, this certainly is a contentious issue (fur vs no fur debate).

I have no problems wearing furs, whether vintage or new. My mom has several fur coats and nothing beats them for warmth in the winter!

Just a reminder that, as always when this thread resurfaces, we're keeping an eye on it, and if it gets out of line, be sure that we'll deal with it. We know there are passionate opinions on both sides of the issue, and all we ask is that everyone keep in mind that the other person is entitled to her views, even though we might not agree with them.

As for me, the only vintage fur I have is my cat. She'll be 10 next month.

I, for one, am happy that this thread is here, open for discussion and hasn't been deleted. I enjoy seeing both sides of the issue expressed, and everyone has done so very eloquently.

I respect a person if they choose to wear fur, and equally respect a person if they choose not to wear it. Choosing not to wear fur and leather, not eating meat and not using any animal products is an ideology I think a lot of animal lovers respect, even if they aren't as devoted to it. One has to be aware as a consumer, as most soaps on the market are made with tallow (animal fat), unless it states otherwise.

I think I've said this before...I'd never buy new fur, but vintage fur doesn't bother me as much. I live in a very diverse household so it's essential that we embrace mutual respect. My vintage honey mink stole is tolerated and, in turn, I'm very accepting of our anti fur delegation. As you can see, they don't mind faux fur blankies.

Sorry...kinda OT but I couldn't resist. Just goes to show different strokes for different folks! ;)
