Got my first Stratoliner last night and only my second vintage hat. Condition is amazing, with the original box and hat pin. I was a little nervous because it is a 6-5/8 and I am a 6-7/8, but I couldn't pass it up. After about 3 hours of work last night, misting, steaming and stretching, it now fits like a glove ! Love the color too, my wife says it matches my eyes.....

Your missus is right, it not only matches your eyes it's an eye catcher too, what a great hat. This aerophobic would love a Stratoliner, I have a clone, a very good one at that, but no Strat pin on the hatband. However, I do have a vintage MG car, and as I'm such a no-fly freak, honestly, when I get on the plane I sit next to the window so that I don't have to get up and let someone else move. My seat belt goes on and stays on, I refuse all refreshment, no food, hot drinks, water, nothing. I have never seen a toilet on an aircraft and I have crossed the pond a good number of times. But back to my vintage MG. Given my fear of flying do you like my compromise?

Ah yes, great compromise, in fact let's just call it a great alternative !
What year is the MG ?

My wife is the same way on a plane, in fact she has to take a Valium to get on one.....

Thanks for the comments on the Strat, I am enjoying it.

Now that is a great one ! I haven't run across that one in my searches. Did you see it for sale somewhere ?
All the ads I post, I own. (unless noted which is rare for me...........);)
So...deep in the recesses of my archives..........
And, YES....I have some rare ones.....very rare. As do others on the lounge.....we are many of us, "collectors"..so beware the bug!!!:eek::rolleyes::rolleyes:;);)

Oh, I already have the bug, been collecting and restoring vintage items for 35 years, just new to hats. I already have a collection of vintage ads, and am working on one for every hat I get, to make a hat rack/display area. It was cool to find the Strat ad in the Life Issue months apart from when mine was manufactured. That’s the really cool stuff I’m always looking for.

It's design dates back to 1937, prototypes were built and tested and the model was due to appear at the 1939 London Motor Show. But MG, like most of the UK's industries, went over to producing war effort. At the end of the hostilities MG only had their pre-war models to produce, not only was there no car production but there was no reasearch & development either. However, all the various military vehicles and armaments that they produced taught them much that was unknown before the war, most of that technology went into their cars. That's why my, last of the production, 1952 MG looks pre-war. The lady is also wearing rather well.

That’s a very nice hat! I think I saw it for sale, but if it’s the same one it went over my budget...now I wish I had stretched a bit. ;)

Gorgeous Stratoliner. "A hat for going places." I do like the price sticker also - Harry Coffee's. What a name. I hope they served complimentary coffee with hat purchases otherwise they were missing easy identification.

Congrat's sir.

Thanks so much, Gents! Pretty excited about this one, read through this thread again and I’m assuming it’s at the late 40’s end.

Brent, yes you saw it too, GW is the only spot I’ve had luck in finding decent prices. It was slightly more then I wanted to pay also but needed to scratch my Strat itch properly.

Eric, I also assumed the same with the store name. Upon further research, it was a department store chain named after the owner. In my original post above, I was going to make a similar joke of something along the lines of, “Harry hold off on my Pumpkin spiced $5 latte and just make it a couple of Strats, please.”

I’ll post some on head pics this weekend when I get a chance to take it on a stroll!
Cheers

Royal DeLuxe Strat that I picked up a little while back. I hunted for one of these for a long time and my patience finally paid off! Love this hat!

Congrats! That is definitely in my top 5 fav hats. The Royal DeLuxe felt is soooooo sweet. The ribbon work is enjoyable different. I think it is classy in its simplicity. Wear it proudly. Eric-
