Just purchased a Stratoliner on eBay for $41.99. Hope that I made a good deal. Does this confer upon me the status of pledge to the Stratoliner Society until I get my hat and post a photo?

Can't wait for you to receive it.......MUST SEE NOW !!!!!

How about a link to the auction, Tort??

Dixon - It's felt.

It's felt Dixon, and is buttery soft. A nice summer wearer. Thanks guys, the HAT is the STAR in that photo ;)

Very nice lid Paddy; very nice indeed! Is that felt or straw? If it's straw - it's extra very nice indeed!

Just received my new Stratoliner. It is beautiful with incredibly soft felt as compared to the new version which I tried out. Unfortunately, it is small for my gargantuan (7 5/8 to 7 3/4) head. Nevertheless, I plan to keep it for a while as it is so darned beautiful. Attached is a link for photos

GWD can't be the only one with the stratoliner hat pin, and the pin that actually is a stratoliner. Therefore, I submit my most recent ebay purchase.
The photo from the auction:
5824_1.JPG

and the one I already had:
TWAservicepin.jpg

Now, all I need is a Stratoliner hat in a 7 1/2.

Lefty......you DOG !!!!!!! I was bidding on that pin and you out-bid me by a buck. But it couldn't have gone to a nicer guy.

I have one already, but wanted another.......since I now have 4 Stratoliners. Yes, 4.......it's a sickness, right GWD?????

When I receive my most recent purchase, I'm going to keep the best one and sell the rest. So, if anyone is interested, PM me and I will send photos prior to listing them on eBay.

I have 2 size 7 and 2 size 7-1/8. All are pretty much correctly sized, except one of the 7-1/8's is a bit loose and might pass for a 7-1/4.....but not a 7-1/2......sorry.

Congrats on the win, Lefty.

Thanks Doc, but I only paid more by a buck.

I dig your new Avatar......cool lid. Now would that be a clock, a sun-dial, a phonograph, or a birthday cake? [huh]

None of the above. It's a conformateur - a fancy word for head measuring tool. Here's a photo from MK's thegoldenera.net, showing someone being fitted for a custom at Optimo.

When you order a hat from Art, he sends you a more simple, flat version of this so that your hat is exactly your size. It's not as cool looking, but does the same job. Here's a photo.

--At least, I think that's what's in the photo. It might have just been the newest way to attract women in 1870.

Cool. Yeah, Art sent me that contraption and he's currently making me a Panama.

But I still think it looks like a birthday cake, sans candles. ;)

What?

Doc, I got one of those from Art for my fitting. It had candles in assorted colors and it took me two washings to get the icing out of my hair.:D Best, Sam

Here's one from 1942 that I haven't seen before. Sorry, but it's the biggest (and only) version of it that I can find. Again, the plain on the hat is pointing forward and down.

Thanks!
Most of the ads I've found have just been on ebay - some on ebay in other countries. Run just "hat" and "ad" and you'll see quite a few, especially in the ebay stores. Many people don't copy protect their images, so they're easy to get. Others use copy protection, but there are often ways around that. The one above came from a site that sells vintage ads that I found by a google search that I can't remember. It's there for sale if anyone wants to pick it up and get us a good scan. If you want to see all of the junk I've posted on the Lounge, and a whole bunch of hat related stuff that I haven't, click here, and be sure to check out the subfolders. I wish I had organized my images better before posting them. Now, if I move them around, all of my photo links will die.
