I'm reeling with this sad news.
He never impressed me that much, until I heard that he was also a prolific songwriter for other artists as well. I believe he wrote "Manic Monday" for the Bangles, for example. He could turn out a catchy pop tune with the best of 'em.
If I had a purple hat I'd wear it today.
Reporter (to Eric Clapton): "What's it like to be the greatest guitarist alive?"
Slowhand: "I don't know, ask Prince."
And to be a pedant, it's "Nothing Compares 2 U"

never heard that quote ... that's awesome
... and my bad .. .I haven't heard that song in like ... seven hours and fifteen days
It may be apocryphal, but I'm rolling with it.
You are still a youngster, Kiddo!I'm just sitting here in my office in shock. 2016 has been a beast to music and artists. He was an incredible talent and fostered incredible talents. Good Lord, he's only two years older than me!
I remember my first encounter with him/his music. Saturday Night Live, this skinny little guy comes out in a g-string and trench coat. Our first reaction was bemusement. After his performance, our reactions were that we were stunned at what we just saw. Talented, prolific, original, and irascible. Everything you'd want in a musician and artist. I was lucky enough to see him once.
What a terrible, terrible, shocking loss.
Haha! I'm pretty sure it is, but he was a talent. He lived here in Toronto for a few years in a very tony part of town...
And yes; it has been a terrible few months for musicians!!!
Prince looked very special wearing a Fedora or any other hat!
