Knox Fifteen size 7 1/4 or 58cm with felted/Cavanagh/Custom Edge. Open crown is approximately 5 1/2 inches and the brim is 2 1/4 inches. The ribbon is an impressive 2 1/8 inches. Felt is substantial yet accepts a dry crease. Nice hat for the style and era.

Size 7 1/4 Knox Twenty thin ribbon. 5 5/8” open crown and a 2 3/4” brim with felted/Cavanagh/Custom Edge. Some verdigris at the ferrule and some minor discoloration from where it was stacked. Great hat with my favorite kind of clay-like felt.

Thanks, Joe. I wish there were more felted edge hats, it’s my favorite edge type.
Mine as well. When I started collecting my main focus was on Cavanagh edge hats. Since then, I grew to appreciate a much wider array. But they always have a soft spot with me. Unfortunately I havnt found too many with wider brims.

First post here - trying to make sense of the quality ranges from Knox - would it be fair to say that all of these models that I've seen referenced are essentially the same general quality ie CustomEdge felts? And the only thing that changes is the price as time has elapsed?

Quality definitely changed over time. A Fifteen from the 1950s likely was a bit better quality than a Twenty (and possibly even 25 or 35) of the 1960s. A Twenty from the 50s or older are almost always pretty high end.

Forty and Fifty (and Hundred) I have never had in hand…. But believe were always primo hats.

In as much as the quality/price points overlapped they did signify an increase in quality. When comparing contemporary hats the higher priced models were objectively better hats. Of course, you have diminishing returns where you are paying significantly more for a small increase in quality. The problem is making sure you’re comparing hats made at the same time.

Knox Superfine. 5 5/8” open crown and 2 1/2” wide underwelt brim. Size 7 1/4 US or 58cm.
The more shaded the hat was the more it presented blue tones. I love how felt does this.

The felt is soft and has few stiffeners. It easily dry creases and holds the crease. The felt is of medium density and is reminiscent of Stetson’s Royal quality of the same era…decent but nothing special. The underwelt gives it a nice felted edge look from the front.

While probably not terribly exciting to everyone here, this is the Tom'N'Jerry I got a bit ago. I figured I'd post it because I always wanted to be one of the Cool Kids™ in school. With this, at least I can pretend to be one of those in the School of Hard Knox, right? :p

Not much available about the myriad of versions of the Tom'N'Jerry's, so I am purely speculating that this is a late '60s model. I just kinda wonder about the timeframe due to the Oilskin protector, and it not being plastic... It doesn't really matter, but figured I'd note that (for extra Cool Points™). The felt is VERY different from any of my other hats that I've acquired over the past couple of months. "Velvety", maybe? (Is that even a word?).

Cool.. I do think that “velvety” property is a constant among Tom and Jerry iterations
