The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Posted by PrettySquareGal:
Not only was I a regular at the (now gone) 8th Street Playhouse in NYC, I'm actually on the audience participation album.

Hah! Haven't thought about that theatre in years. Used to see Liquid Sky there, too.

Saw RH about three or four times back in '79. My parents had already been through two teenagers by then, so they didn't really worry about me, fourteen at the time. Used to go to the rock and roll midnight movie every weekend. I remember being on the line for RH when some guy in leather bustiere asked, 'Are you virgins?' What a long strange trip.

Senator Jack: A Quinn/Martin Production

Oh yeah. I used to see Pink Floyd's "The Wall" on Thursday nights (I was your age then, too). I also saw "The Song Remains the Same" and "A Clockwork Orange."

It's a shame that the theatre is gone now.

Maybe I saw you there one night, in my haze. :)

I first saw RHPS on cable back in NY in the late 70's early 80's and around 84-5 saw it at the Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena, CA a couple of times.

I also remember seeing the concert film from the Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense" at the Rialto and loving it.

The Rialto started playing a midnight show again, if you're interested. :)

Saw it once, kinda liked it, but never got into the scene. I think I was a hair too old - already halfway through college - and was already into a good number of cultish fascinations by then...

Since Grindhouse has opened into theaters, I thought a discussion on a classic interactive movie experience would be good.

Not for everyone but a great film to see. It's over the top, it's very cliche, it's offensive, it's funny, it's genius, and above all, a classic cult film.

Who has seen it in the theater? Had a party? Attended a midnight showing?
Dressed for the occasion?

Who's a virgin? Who's not? (If you've been to a midnight show, you'll know what I mean ;))

And please no still photos from the film. :)
I love Rocky Horror. I've been to the midnight sessions in sydney, but not for a while. It's such alot of fun. Like you say, it's not for everyone, but it's a great night out with friends into the same thing.

I think there ought to be a gathering for a midnight show as well. May I join you ladies in your Rocky Horror quest? :)
Wish I could go with you guys!
Anyway, there is Fun in the Dark in Syd. Just head to that one of these days!

The Lyrrrrrics, Ladies & Gentlemen, are what got to me...

"Rose Tint My World"

it was great when it once began
i was a regular frankie fan
but it was over when he had the plan
to start a-workin' on a muscle man
yeah, now the only thing that gives me hope
is my love of a certain dope
rose tints my world
and keep me safe from the trouble and pain

well i'm just seven hours old
truly beautiful to behold
and somebody should be told
my libido hasn't been controlled
but now the only thing i've come to trust
is an orgasmic rush of lust
rose tints my world
and keeps me safe from the trouble and pain

it's beyond me,
help me mommy
i'll be good, you'll see
take these dreams away
what's this?
let's see...
i feel sexy
what's come over me?
whoo! here it comes again

i feel released
bad times deceased
my confidence has increased
reality is here
the game has been disbanded
my mind has been expanded
it's a gas that franky's landed
his lust is so sincere...

whatever happened,to Fay Wray?
that delicate, satin-draped frame
as it clung to her thigh
how i started to cry
'cause i wanted to be dressed just the same

give yourself over to absolute pleasure
swim the warm waters of sins of the flesh
erotic nightmares beyond any measure
and sensual daydreams to treasure forever
can't you just see it?
woah-oh-ohhhh...

don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it
don't dream it, be it

this is the greatest moment of my life!!
