what kind of socks does one wear with crocs and a suit? Should they match your tie?:eusa_doh:

They can't be any worse than the old hippie professor look we saw in my college days, you know berkenstocks and a BADLY FITTED corduroy suit with leather elbow patches, granny glasses, a plaid shirt and wool square bottom necktie and scraggly beard and haircut (apparently this indicated they were deeply intellectual). [huh]
white socks=\. I've seen the corduroys too, with loafers and the plaid shirt. but they generally forgo the necktie (even those ugly wool ones.. i call those "carpet ties").

Gentlemen,

Is the threepiece suit discussion an American thing?
On this side of the ocean I wouldn't really consider a threepiece something special or striking. Admittedly, here in Holland stylishness is becoming a rarity, but if a suit is worn, a proper suit that is, it's as often three piece as not in my perception.

I see them very occassionally in Leeds, both on people and mannequins in storefronts. The younger men tend to look like the picture Jovan posted a couple pages back, trousers to low with a belt. I've only seen one older gent wearing a 3 piece with matching pieces.

No way for three-piece in Prague. I´ve never seen it worn here, so I´ll have to do something about it. I already got a contact for a good tailor :)

3 piece

I think three piece suits look fantastic. They are versatile, sharp and help cover a multitude of sins.

Made three piece suits out of 3 classic three button Jones New York Suits.
Bought three very hard to find vests for 10 dollars each, pure wool 6 button
Suit were 3 button Pure New wool super 100 250 each on sale. Awesome fabric. Very classic but has the quality of modern new wool. Definately my favorite suit. Still sell for 250 but no pleats in the pants now.

Great suits

They've never gone away in my wardrobe! I have as many three piece as any other type. Here are a few examples:

My Customer Tailor suit that I call my "Avatar Suit!"

Lastly, another My Custome Tailor Suit which generous lapels:

Awesome suits. great cut. I think a member was asking, "Where can I get a suit like this" on another suit thread. It was bogey in a three piece black suit cut like yours. The bogey suit looks very similar to the pic posted on here of Gable in a black three piece suit. That Gable suit has a perfect sillouette as a member here refered to the importance of. The modern cut in this threads first picture is totally modern euro. If you like that its fine but nowhere near the classic you have.

PS I don't currently have a 3-piece suit, but I like them. Not sure what the locals would think should I wear one--I've had a sport coat and slacks with loafers referred to as a "suit" here!

Haha, I've had that happen to me many times. To the casual crowd a tie and jacket equals a suit.

When I was young, I was an easy fit - the only tailoring I needed other than the sleeves, cuffs, and sometimes waist, was to have the collar fixed so it would not stand away from my neck. I see a lot of men on TV who need to have that fixed. So I bought RTW and never had a three piece suit.

Now, in my golden years, which occasionally seem like 90 miles of bad road, I buy MTM made by Samualsohn and have 3 three piece suits. I like them a lot whenever the weather is cool enough to wear the vest. I tend to leave my jacket unbuttoned which I think looks a bit sloppy, but not so bad with a 3 piece. My favorite is a herringbone that I had made last year.

I sometimes wear a cheap pocket watch which, I suppose, is a bit of an affection. I would like to have a vintage watch (my oldest is a Hamilton wrist tank from the 1930s), but I don't know anything about watches and my clothing budget has about run out.

Cheers, Jim.

I think open jackets look fine when one has a vest on, and many people in the past evidently thought it looked well enough to get photographed.

We'd love to see your herringbone three-piece!

That high set 2B has a vintagey feel, if not quite a vintagey look.

Too bad it isn't sold as separates, the way Jos.A.Bank does it. You could get a Reg jacket, Short vest and Long trousers and have a higher waisted ensemble. Maybe even buy trou a size or 2 too big to get a little more snap thru the leg. It's all about gettin' over on the Man...:cool2:

Too bad these suits only come in "children's sizes". [huh] Where's a good 60 extra long when you need one ...

Brilliant. That's why I buy pants a bit too big.

Wore my blue three piece Tuesday to a local rabble rouser's meeting. ;) Yes, I was the most overdressed there. :p :D I like it that way. More people listen to you and call you sir. ;)

I experience this on buses and in restaurants. Yes, I like it. A lot. Is enjoying respect a bit snobbish? Nah.
