Here is one of my favorite Resistol hats. It originally had a Ft. Worth or "cattleman with kicks" crease. It has a slightly flanged brim so I left it up in back.

Great looking hat. 3" is actually a good brim size in my mind.

That is nice! It almost looks like my plains.
Thanks. When was the red liner era? Norm Thompson had these hats in the catalog from around 1954 til the '70s. I have no idea how old this example is, though I always thought it was from later rather than earlier in the run.

Here is my "Plains". I'm not sure when the red liner began and ended. I've been told that red liner westerns were from mid fifties to mid sixties. And that the Brown sweat and single ply ribbon was from the late 50s. Black sweats were used with the red liner in the 60s. I have seen some later red liners that don't have gold piping around the tip. I am not sure about this timeline, but it is all I have been able to find out.

I also like the red liner.
I am going to have to find a stagecoach, I would like at least one in my resistol collection. There is model, I believe it is the Pony Bob, in gray that I like. I would also like to find a red liner Missoula or Pendleton as they were wide brims with bound edge, at least the ones I have seen were.

Thanks Michael, I like the 3" brims. I also have a red liner era "Plains" that is 3".
Hello! this is my first time positing in here. I was helping move my fiancé yesterday and while we were packing he was going to get rid of this old cowboy hat. I took it and wanted to look into it a little more. He had gotten it from an older man a few years back at one of his jobs. Do you know if they are worth any money? It's al little dusty but nice. It still has the original tag on the inside of it as well. It's a black Resistol.

That should clean up nicely. You can brush the dust off with a hat brush, just remember to brush counter clockwise lookin down from the top, underside of the brim is brushed clockwise. It's a very nice hat but not worth a whole lot of money. Check the online auctions to get an idea what they are selling for. The 5x may be of better quality than a 3 or 4x, depending on the year. The later hats got more Xs, and lower quality. It is much better than what is sold as 5x now.

Thank you so much for getting back to me!! I appreciate it. It's too small for his head and too big for mine. I'll look into online auction and see what they are going for. I'll end up selling it if I don't find someone who wants it.

Must finish my webpage of Stagecoach hats. Pony Bob model and Johnny Fry model have similar ribbons and there is a Pony Bob with different ribbon on ebay but it is small for me.

That would be a very interesting webpage! That Pony Bob is too small for me also, but it's fun just looking at all the variations.
