1940s Resistol Monarch.
What a hat! Love the colors.

Do you usually buy hats that aren’t your size? Are you selling it since you can’t wear it or what?I picked this up recently. It’s not my size and needs a new sweatband…could be a nice project hat. 3 1/4” bound brim and approximately 5 1/2” open crown.

Great looking hat and badass box. I want one of those boxes to display at homeResistol 5X Western. I don't think hat was ever worn .. just sat in it's box for the past 75 years. Moment I put hat on my head sweat's seam tore open. Yay. Hat has green, thin rectangular Garland Tx tag.

Nice! I was wondering if you did selling too since you said it wasn’t your size because that’s the only thing that would make sense. Do you have a favorite brand/years/type/quality of all?I buy hats in my size. I buy hats in sizes I think I can sell. I occasionally buy hats in sizes I can’t wear just to experience the hat. I’ll sell a couple hundred hats this year and maybe add 15 to my personal collection as well as some custom hats. I’ve also been known to trade hats with other Lounge members/friends.

I like Resistol quite a bit too. I have a 70’s resistol 100 and a 70’s beaver 125 and they’re great. As far as Stetson goes I know they made beaver 100s and I’m sure they’re great but the older 7x clear beaver are the ones I hear about the most. Are they the best Stetsons?I can’t say I have a favorite. Borsalino, Mallory, Dobbs, Stetson, Cavanagh, and many others all made great hats. The Europeans made the best velours etc. The 1940s had, in my opinion, the best combination of component quality and style and proportions. Your preferences may differ.
also, i noticed earlier in this thread there is another hat from Levy's; and W101 was also displayed on that hat, but it was not the plains style.Grabbed this Silverbelly Plains model from shopgoodwill; it needs a new sweat since it's cracked in the back, and coming loose. Has a 2 cord band. No mention of beaver, does that mean there is none? I haven't applied much steam yet, but it seems to really want to stay with the cattleman crease.
Adding one of the outside of the hat:
Rather dashingHere’s one that eluded me for a long time: a wide brimmed Resistol fedora. I’ve found a couple 1960s stingy brims, but the larger fedoras I prefer are hard finds. This came off ebay and was listed as an unknown large size. After it arrived, I immediately put it on and thought “just a tiny bit tight.” Then I found some foam size reducers behind the sweatband: with them removed it fits perfectly!
Dark brown with a 2 ¾” bound edge brim and 5 ⅝” open crown. It’s a 3X Beaver with the Kitten Finish. Size: 7 ¾!
