Thanks all. I sure would like to find one like this but in a grey shade. Those seem to be the ones most sought after.
I seem to find some once in a blue moon but a bit out of my price range.
I do have a San Antonio that I picked up last year, but it's just a bit too small to stretch .

Really nice hat, Purplesage, most kitten-finish's I have seen were stingy-brims, so a 2 1/2 inch standard width brim, cav edge kitten finish is not common. I already have a dark brown almost identical (except for the branding) Bond 5th Ave or I would consider the Resistol, it's my size. Steep price but still significantly cheaper than buying that quality of felt new, and you cannot buy a 'new' cav edge at any price point. Hat appears to be in very good condition and a reasonably good investment, IMHO.

Thanks John it is a real nice hat and the Kitten Finish lives up to it's name. I'm always open to reasonable offers on any hats I'm selling.

I've had this Resistol for a while. It's a nice lightweight hat good for everyday wear. Kind of reminds me a bit of a Vagabond I own. Not sure of the age. If anyone here would hasten to weigh in as far as when they think this would made I would appreciate it.

purplesage, my initial uneducated guess is that it was made after 1960 when 'The Alamo' starring John Wayne was a hit. Making of that film would have been a big deal in Texas where Resistols reigned supreme, so maybe 1958-59, but post-1960 seems a safer bet.

Resistol like to name their hats after Texas cities (San Antonio, Waco, Pecos, etc.). I also have a Resistol Deming which I assume was named for Deming, New Mexico so maybe not just Texas cities. This hat could be named for Alamo, Texas or the Alamo itself. I agree with John though, the sweatband and tags look 1960's to me.

The sweatband is a mystery for me - that gritty surface look is definitely not 1950s, but I have some 1970s Resistol high-end westerns that have good quality smooth-finish leather sweatbands similar to the 1950s. I don't know enough to say whether Resistol would have used different grade sweatbands for different lines of hats.

That is a strange name for a Resistol hat. Post some pictures when you get it.

Another, better price. "Panda" usually describes a kitten finish type felt, but it could be pounced if it's a little too furry - doesn't look like it though. Probably a good felt.

This one is in brown.
The one I'm waiting is white -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Res...MtNNf9KEKJPK0o5Uqk1Ng%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

That makes sense. It is referring to the felt finish not the dimensions and crease style of the hat. It appears that Resistol like to name their felt finishes after animals (Kitten, Panda, etc.) and their hat styles after cities or locations (San Antonio, Pecos, Waco, Alamo, Deming, etc.).
