Looks more like a 1940's model than 30's. Most of the 1930's fedora styles command a brim less than 2.5" and didn't have bound brim edges.

Still, a fine looking hat (love the color combo).

There are a lot of the shorter brims in late 20s movies, but the 2 1/2 and wider brims were pretty common in the day as well. When the 40s came in you saw dimensions lean more toward the wider brim and shorter crown. I chose the dimension that I did for the Powell because... well, they just work.

Any felt breaks down over time, just like any suit wears out. I chose a very good felt so it wouldn't break down very quickly. I like clothes that I can abuse. This is a hat you can roll up and abuse... But don't forget to properly take care of it as well. Cleaning and blocking are required with a hat over time, just as a good suit needs cleaning and pressing now and again.
