Unfortunately, here in the UK the once familiar red phone boxes became a 'thing of the past' many years ago and were replaced with characterless parodies in aluminium and perspex. QUOTE]

Not where I live - less than 20 miles from you. Here are four in the town square, although they do seem to be clustering together for mutual protection!

And here's a post box - a JW Penfold model - in continuous use since 1866.

Those coming to The City in May.

I just called P.J. Clarke's and even though they
have recently remodeled, they kept their old enclosed PHONE BOOTH. Third Avenue & 55th Street. A Landmark for over a century and no res. for Lunch needed and just a few hours notice for dindin. Wish I could go to the Apple Outing next month but my B'klyn Hideout Crib is unavailable...
