What always surprises me is the prices that Open Roads get. I mean they are always on eBay they are still in production. I know the 100's and 25's and on and on but really this was not a rare a hat as the prices they the get on eBay. Plus all the copies by all the other manufactures. Makes for a not rare hat style that still demands rare hat style prices.

Everybody still thinks they're cool, plus a certain herd mentality when you see them for sale and being bought readily. A classic man's model of a hat.

It's my go-to hat as well. I see few enough fedoras out there as it is, but I can't remember the last time a saw an OR being worn other than my own.

Great stuff, Jauntyone. I know those are artists' renderings, but two comments:

a) The '47 ads show brims like today's Open Road, but the brim on the '59 looks like it's no more than 2 3/8. Apparently Dobbs offered shorter brims on the Westward as the prevailing hat style became stingier and stingier; and

b) I want one.

The rodeo is in town this weekend, and my small wife hates big cowgirl hats, so I found her what looks to be a size 7 Resistol San Antonio or other Resistol Open Road clone on eBay, gave it a little tweaking, and she wore it to the rodeo today. I knew I'd get her in a hat sooner or later. Frank
