who said character and integrity has died???
The funny thing is -- this is the second time it's happened to me this fall.

I purchased a vintage Bulova watch from a dealer in Oklahoma. It ran well for two weeks, then stopped. I sent it back. He returned it promptly, saying it was fixed; but it still ran super fast. So he took it back, and refunded my money.

A week later, I get a box with the strap I'd put on the watch . . . with the watch attached, running fine. His note said he'd decided giving me the watch was the right thing to do!

I fired him off a letter with a check for half the original sales amount, saying I appreciated his gesture, but I knew he had a business to run and he'd already sunk quite a bit of resources into the watch. End result: Everyone happy, including watch.

If only more big business was more concerned with a good product instead of a good profit. I realize that a profit is necessary but if you can't produce satisfied costumers your business becomes almost a ponzy scheme and someday you will run out of new costumers. His offer for a free substitute and your payment non the less shows that perhaps there is a morning glow on the horizon of a dark (to me anyway) moral vacuum that seems to be the order of the current day for some.

Here is yet another candidate for an OR style. This is a Bandera from Fort Worth. A very well made hat with a nice sweatband treatment.

I'm pretty sure this is the one I just posted in the "New Hats" forum - arrived in the mail today! It looks as good in person as the pictures - the ribbon is a "pink" tan color.

Yes, that's right, free. I'd purchased a Champ Kasmir finish OR clone. The seller emailed me, refunding my money, as the hat I'd bought had been destroyed by moths -- and he was sending me a similar hat with much less damage, for free. This is it, a no-brand with soft felt, a fairly stiff 2.5" brim, and about a 5" crown at its high point.

Here's the liner crest. "Moveo et Proficio," it says, which sounds familiar:
100_1185.jpg

All in all, it's a pleasant lid. I'll try cleaning it a little, but it's surprisingly nice as it is. Oh, and the sweatband has "Scarbrough & Sons, Austin" stamped on it. Anybody have any idea what brand it might be?

"Moveo et Proficio" is the Knox motto, but the crest is different from the ones I have.

Another Champ Kasmir OR clone

This is my most recent catch from eBay. The seller said the hat was purchased in the late '50s, worn once for a school play, and then sat in its box since. I dunno about the date, but it does look fresh:

I've snapped the brim down and recreased it as a fedora. It looked like this (seller's pic, much darker than reality) before:

That's more than I've have ever found out about them and I've owned three including this one (including a 5X OR clone). The others were from the 1960s and this one seems older than the others. They are a very well made hat in any case. No model name is marked on the hat or the box.

Redhawk posted it first. I have been trying to track down a model name.
Bandera appears to have been a subsidiary of Bailey.

Unusual Resistol

I have owned this one for a while, but I don’t think I ever posted this unusual hat in this forum. This is a 3X Byer-Rolnick-era Resistol OR-style that is marked both “Fort Worth” and “Pecos.” The hat was sold by a store in Minnesota, so the Texas markings aren’t related to the retailer. No paper label remains.

This one came to me with a cattleman crease and flat brim. It's always been a mystery as to the markings.

Interesting because a Pecos & a Ft Worth by Resistol look nothing like an Open Road.
Both a western hats with unbound brims. The Ft Worth having the Foreman/Ft Worth crease & Pecos having traditional Alpine/Cattleman.

It seems Resistol may recycle their model names too - I have an OR-style "Wide Country" but have come across a regular western style with the same name marked in it.

I'm sure they have. Not sure why they have so many OR clone type models but Stetson had quite a few from their old catalogs that look to be configured the same, maybe a different blocking but ribbon & matching edge binding the OR style...
