I have not seen that script font before. A very old model, you think, or a special run?

I’m inclined to believe that it was a special run. No idea if the vents etc. are from the factory or aftermarket. It doesn’t look all that old to me…post 1960 I’m guessing.

Canadian built under contract to Stetson? I think the store embossing says "Alberta".

Technically I joined this group 14 years ago but the thread attaching the sweet band disintegrated. Today I just stitched it back in. Now I just need to decide what bash I want to go with.

any opinions?

First post here... Does anyone know if Stetson ever released an Open Road Royal Deluxe in Fawn? I'm looking at one online but can't confirm whether they're just calling it Royal Deluxe and up-charging it or if it's legit.

Here's the link. The seller is Billy's Western Wear. The sweat band clearly says 6X, the description says 6X firm felt... All signs point to no but it's worth a shot. If nobody can vouch, I may call to inquire.

I don’t know. Stetson didn’t release its 2021 catalogs online like they have in years past. In the 2020 catalog it shows fawn in the 6X but not the Royal De Luxe. One-2-Mini Ranch doesn’t show fawn in the RD either. I’m skeptical.

Yeah - I bought a Cognac Open Road from One-2 but it's a little darker than I expected. I was really hoping it would be a lighter, more camel color in person. I'll probably end up going with the 6X fawn but I was really hoping to get the Royal Deluxe quality felt.

This is kind of more of a snap brim in general question, but my 6X Open Road's snap brim never seems to want to stay snapped down. Is this just new hat woes, or is there something I should do to get it to be more flexible to being snapped down?

Unless you are going Aussie style, ORs with a Cattlemen's crease are not usually snapped down. Alternatively, modern 6X hats are often so stiff, it may take a considerable amount of steam to get the brim to stay in a down position.

The current 6X is really a brim up kind of hat. You can steam (or even carefully iron) the brim to any position you want, but you may lose the tension and not be able to “snap” it back up. Maybe just a bit of steam while holding it in the position you want it?

Ah, that's a shame. I'd like to have it brim down when it's raining, and brim up once I get inside (or when it's not raining). I guess I'll just keep snapping it back down after it snaps up, don't want to steam it down since I only wear/want to wear it snapped down maybe 15-20% of the time.

No offense, but what you are describing is one of the many reasons we here gravitate toward vintage hats. Most of the pre-50s/60s ORs have much more malleable felt thus providing much more versatility in the crease and brim configuration. Look around the Lounge and you will see many great ORs in all different configurations. I have a couple of ORs with the traditional Cattlemen's crease but I actually prefer a fedora configuration with a teardrop or diamond crease and a snap brim to use exactly as you describe - up most of the time but snapped down in the rain.

I'll have to add getting a vintage one to my list! Been wanting a white/silverbelly one anyways.
