That's really nice and I love the blue. If you pop it out, what's the open crown height (and what does the taper look like)?

My guess is unfortunately, that it probebly is blocked exacly the same as the other modern OR's......
Because otherwise if I could re-crease it.....I would love one!

The crown at the crease is 4 1/4.
The brim is 2 3/4.
I'm sure there will be some variation from hat to hat.

If the crown was higher I’d buy one today. The modern Open Road’s crowns are too low for my taste...some of the vintage hats too. It’s also hard to swallow a modern Stetson at the same price as a custom hat also in pure beaver.

Hello everyone! I thought I'd poke my nose in and see what was going on.
I don't know what the deal is with the Stetson website but I can tell you the dealer cost for the Royal is 12% higher than that of the 6X.

How does the felt on the 100% Beaver compare to the 20X?

To the touch there is little or no difference as best I can tell.
All I can say for certain is that one is pure beaver and the other; whatever it is they put in the 20X.

Since you’re here, I know you run your own shop (whose website I peruse frequently), what do you know/make of the fact that Stetson now lists the Royal Deluxe and 6X versions of the Open Road at the same MSRP?

I know you sell them with about a $20 price difference (which makes complete sense to me).

Have they reduced the quality of the RD? Has the 6X secretly been a better hat than we knew, but shellacked into hard hat oblivion?

There is no change as far as I'm concerned.
The dealer price for the Royal is still about 12% higher than the 6X, thus the $20 difference.

That blue or is pretty nice...if it was available in that grade in silver belly, I’d be all over it. Much easier to get it in the house when it looks like all my other hats.

Northwest at $375
Hornskov is around $375

there are probably others, this is just off the top of my head.

on subject though, Hatco's tobacco Brown is a nice, rich, tone. It's the felt used on my Fortune and Glory.

Gannon will make you a custom for $325-$350. Were he open, an original Gus Miller from Batsakes is $350. I believe Agnoulita and Hornskov are even less.
