I have been going with 7 1/2, but seem to be using my hat stretcher on some of my hats so I thought I would try one a bit larger. I'm a work in progress. :)

All I use my hat stretcher for is to give them the gentlest bump in size and to take them from standard oval to long oval.

I saw that OR you bought. I’m not sure how to feel about having to compete with another 7 5/8 :)
If you have the same luck that I do finding vintage hats in your size you should look at the new(ish) Royal DeLuxe OR as they are a much nicer felt. I like the western weight hats too, but given the option I’d chose the Royal DeLuxe every time.

Are you going to keep it as a cattleman or change the crease?

Sure do like the looks of this Sage Open Road Royal Deluxe from 0ne 2 for $189.95.

Should probably wait and see what the 6X is like first.
LOL :)
Probably keep the factory crease, at least for now. I have been waiting on a Premier Stratoliner since April and may play with learning how to bash hats when it finally arrives.
Peace.

Consider yourself lucky, then. I agree with jlee on this one. I had a couple of those more recent vintage productions and I was never impressed with them. One was given to me and the other I paid $30 for. Can't believe someone actually paid $150 for that one. Like jlee advised, if you want a nicer vintage OR, hold out for one from the '50s or early '60s. I also have one from the early '60s and you can tell the difference. I can't comment on the new ones, though. I haven't handled one of those.

I would like to apply for membership to the guild. Just picked up this vintage OR yesterday. Anyway, this is my third OR. My other two are new (OR Royal Deluxe and straw).

Nothing wrong with an early 4XOR. The specs & dimensions were still good compared to what was to come. If you should decide to fedoraize it you might have to work at removing the ghost crease by hand.

Don't look at as competition, instead maybe see it as someone to pickup your extras. :)

A few more western style cloths in some areas of Cali than in others. But then again, anything goes around here these days.
:)

The cattleman crease and I have a love/hate relationship. I like how it looks, but I don’t like how it looks on me. Luckily, they can be reshaped pretty easily. I do wish the modern ORs had an additional half inch of crown height.

I wanted to give it a diamond but the hat wanted a teardrop. I try to not argue with my hats; my wife gets a scared look when I do. :)

Hey Brent:
If you don’t like how you think you look in a CC why don’t you try snapping the brim down for a head shot? I’ve found some CC hats like that (or flat). They just take some getting used too especially when used to down in front fedoras. Then they grow on you. Just a thought.
