Thanks everyone. I just keep wearing it. Taking it off. Looking at it. Repeat.

Is there any way to date one of these things? The hat box shows age, of course, but did that Stetson Open Road really come in a Kevin McAndrew hat box? Probably not. I guess the hat and hat box got connected some years ago and have remained together.

And, if I've been reading the archives right, the quality of a 4x hat from then until now is quite different? How long ago did the quality begin to change? I'm not schooled enough to know if I have a "higher quality" 4x or not.

I'd guess late 70s or early 80s. I have a taupe one similar to yours and the felt is much nicer than the modern 6X IMO. Nice find!

Javadave, you did very good today! What a price, the modern Open Roads sell for around 170 dollars, and usually, vintage Open Roads can be much more expensive.

Finally found a vintage 50s Open Road, the felt is in great condition but some moron has crudely cut out the dealership logo and some other marking on the sweatband, no clue why someone would do that!

Been meaning to post photos of this one for a while.

Stetson "The Excellent" Open Road. I believe it was manufactured in Canada based on the foil size tag. Stampted "15 MAR 1956" on inside of sweatband. Oilskin logo cover in good condition in the liner. I don't think I've ever seen one of these before.
