OK, let the games begin! I've been reading a lot of fun snarky comments about the athletes' costumes over on Facebook. I have to say, the Spanish outfits are not near as bad as some people are making out. But yoiks and gadzooks, what the heck are the Brits wearing???

I quite liked the Spaniards panama hats, minus the tutti-fruitti hatbands, of course. Nice black hatbands would have been great. I didn't catch the brits as I was only watching it out of boredom while I waited to get my tire fixed.

Don't remotely care what the Brits are wearing. I refused to watch the whole sorry farce, it has impinged on my life to far too great a degree already. I'm counting down the days til it's gone, wishing Paris had put up a better fight in 2005. The only winners at the Olympics are not the poor buggers whose lives have been geared around being able to run a bit fast to the point where they need a bauble to validate their existence, but the corporate sponsors.

I didn't watch the opening, except that I heard Jerusalem blaring from my neighbour's windows - they cranked that up to the max for some reason - so I plugged in my earphones and watched a documentary on the Crimean War instead. Frankly, I prefer watching pictures of people with dysentery to anything sport-related. But twitter was alight with glee so I think most people liked it.

I watched the start of the ceremony and thought Danny Boyle did an amazing job (even if Kenneth Branagh was chewing up the scenery) - it was exceptionally creative. After the opening ceremony I have no interest in the Olympics and can't wait for it to be over.

I checked out a few of the team's ensembles - someone said the USAs is like "a fascist Yacht Club" which kind of hits the nail on the head (whether you like it or not it's a disgrace that the clothing was made in the China and not the US - that should have been mandatory) - think the uniform overall was nice but the beret was overkill.

I just had a look at the Spanish uniform now (they were still on countries starting with "A" when I retired to bed last night) - it reminds me of a cheap fast food joint uniform - apparently the Spanish team are not happy with their clothing either -

From this photo I can see why:

From what little I've seen, the Yanks win hands down. Does seem a shame they didn't showcase US manufacture, but presumably they had a budget and that couldn't deliver. Have now see the Brits - they looked awful. Stella Macartney design, apparently.

Best one I've seen was a few years ago when the Americans had one inspired by Chariots of Fire.

I rather like the US outfits, but they should have opted for straw boaters instead of berets, that would have been sweet.

I'd have gone with a white cotton or linen eight panel cap - better for the weather in England this Summer. I've not worn a single one of my straw hats this year - only the polystraws. Far too wet.

I think I have found my new motto for the duration of the Olymics (and the unfornately thing that follows here in the US... football season...).

Thank you Flicka!!! :D

Really enjoying seeing the counrtyside and making me want to spend weeks traveling around the British Isles.

As for the US team's outfits, what the heck was RL thinking in having the uniforms made in China and I call BS on the cost excuse. Like too many US companies, it's about making money, not about doing the right thing. Personally, I have always thought his clothing was over priced for the marginal quality bit regardless, I'll never spend money on his clothing.

My son and I have been enjoying the games. These top athletes from participating countries are competing to be crowned the best athletes on earth. Thrilling stuff.

Now that road cycling is over the Olympics are over for me.

Running, Jumping, and/or Throwing Things don't float my boat.

I wish they would bring in a different soccer format, too. Indoor, five-a-side or something similar. Not more of this (astonishingly low quality) 11-a-side stuff. Can't wait for Rio and Rugby Sevens. It will convert a LOT of people to rugby. Very exciting sport.
