An FL member sent a link to pics of a CSA reunion in Memphis, TN around 1900.

Nice hats, a couple of canes & a crutch.

No hats but all 5 veterans are wearing the Southern Cross of Honor.

Closeup of the Southern Cross of Honor. On the original metals the veterans name was engraved in the rectangular bar across the top.

A couple more reunion photos on Jefferson Davis’ birthday, still celebrated as a legal holiday in this state, as it was Monday. I imagine this will be the last year for that. State employees will likely be the ones most bothered by the loss of that day off.

"Following the Battle of Murfreesborough, Tennessee, United States (Union) Lieutenant Colonel John G. Parkhurst with the 9th Michigan Infantry reports, 'The forces attacking my camp were the First Regiment Texas Rangers, Colonel Wharton, and a battalion of the First Georgia Rangers, Colonel Morrison. . . . There were also quite a number of negroes attached to the Texas and Georgia troops, who were armed and equipped, and took part in the several engagements with my forces during the day.'"

Quite a shame some states continue to celebrate treason.
I'm glad I live in a state that hasn't forgotten her POW's & MIA's. These flags are lite at night; they fly 24/7 even after all these yrs. When you have lost an MIA you have no place to morn. If you want to accuse a people of treason maybe you should look to the politicians who negotiated a surrender without full accountability of all POW's & MIA's. Your treason comment was over the top & uncalled for.

After his post I gave careful consideration as to how I might respond. I wasn't looking for conflict, merely stating the facts as they arose during some historical times in all of our lives. After more careful consideration, I knew I wouldnt have to say a word or hit a key. Thank you, gentlemen.

Like the 4th of July?

And it’s a shame that so many folks on the Lounge here lately seem to be intent on insulting others and picking a fight.

Hear, hear.

I'm glad I live in a state that honors all her War dead.

This same thing happened in the “How far do you have to go to be a tourist?” thread a week or two ago. Folks living in places with their own social ills, throwing rocks at other folks. The self-righteous hypocrisy is wearing very thin.
