On the last one, the hat seems a bit small for his head.
Love that shoeing photo, looks like something William Matthews would have painted in modern times. One of the hardest parts of being a cowboy as well, absolutely back-breaking labor, unless you're a very short, wide cowboy. Always killed my back after doing it a few hours. Keep them coming, boys.

One imagines Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe tailing somebody on a case. Perhaps he's the one in the raincoat to the left of center, standing between the two light-colored coupes that are headed in opposite directions; or the dark-suited gent at far left under the awning with the light mid-ribboned hat, watching the traffic snarl.
Darn, I like that hat. It looks like a tall-crowned homburg with the sides of the brim swooped up more, and soft wide side dents. Sounds like a job for Art to reproduce . . .
