The newly released NYC Dept. of Records photos are going to be a treasure trove... this one (which I caught in a UK Daily Mail story), made me think of Aureliano and his windswept Trionfo that blew off on the Brooklyn Bridge (if I remember the story correctly).

Brown ballplayers + 2 big bowlers.

Those have to be the biggest bowlers I have ever seen. I know that people used to wear hats higher on their heads...but even still.....those things are HUGE! They must be the 6 1/4 inch crowns that I've read about in vintage advertisements. Its interesting that the brims are wider as well. They have great crown shapes though.

Thanks for posting this one - I'd recognise that stretch of the canal anywhere. Brought back some very happy memories of trips to Paris (and of the bakery a block or so from there which sells the most amazing patisserie! :D)

While searching for a particular hatter, I found a wealth of articles and pictures from newspapers or magazines, too many to list here, so here is the url:
http://books.google.com/books?id=U_...=onepage&q=burkhardt's cincinnati hat&f=false

It appears these are from 1922 (didn't have time to investigate at a late hour).
One article said, hat manufacturers are worried that caps are taking over a bigger percentage among both young and the old!

Hope for some of you this is new and you find it interesting.
