Amazing how the seated gent almost has his pants pulled up to his armpits!

He has that waist band just above his belly button. In truth that is were your actual waist is. We wear out pants on our hips today, not our waist. Mostly because belts are more common now where as suspenders were more common in 1905. Suspenders do not work properly with pants that don't rise to your real waist.
