Some of the men involved in the 11 day manhunt of Agatha Christie after she was last seen leaving her home on Dec 3, 1926. Foul play was suspected & her husband, Colonel Sir Archibald Christie came under scrutiny & suspicion when her Morris Cowley automobile was found near a pond named The Silent Pool, at the exact site where two children had mysteriously drowned previously. A glove left in the automobile was taken to a psychic medium who correctly said that Agatha was still alive. Much of Britain feared the author of several popular scandalous murder mysteries would be found dead.

Agatha Christie was next spotted on Dec 12th while partying the night away in the ballroom as a guest at the Swan Hydro Hotel. She claimed she had no memory of what had happened to her; was unaware of being the object of a large scale manhunt; & throughout the rest of her life never gave a full account of her disappearance. From the beginning & after her recovery her husband Sir Archibald Christie tried to control the narrative that was out there. To this day it’s an enduring mystery & most speculate there was trouble in the marriage, & it was a stunt pulled by Agatha to embarrass her husband & perhaps promote a reconciliation in the marriage.

Herbert James "Burt" Munro (1899 - 1978) being launched on his record setting land speed record run in 1967 at Bonneville Salt Flats. The record for under 1000cc motorcycles still holds. At the time he was 68 and the motorcycle (a modified 1920 Indian) was 47 years old.

  • In 1962, he set an 883 cc class record of 288 km/h (178.95 mph) with his engine bored out to 850 cc.
  • In 1966, he set a 1000 cc class record of 270.476 km/h (168.07 mph) with his engine at 920 cc.
  • In 1967, his engine was bored out to 950 cc and he set an under 1000 cc class record of 295.453 km/h (183.59 mph). To qualify he made a one-way run of 305.89 km/h (190.07 mph), the fastest-ever officially recorded speed on an Indian.. The unofficial speed record (officially timed) is 331 km/h (205.67 mph) for a flying mile.
