Busy Christmas shoppers? Bustling lunchtime crowd? This 1939 scene looks north along SW 4th Avenue from Yamhill Street. Signs for the Multnomah Hotel (now Embassy Suites Hotel) and the Board of Trade Building in the distance.

This is a great image. Love the glass displays on the sidewalk. Today some scumbag would smash and dash those for sure. Looks like the windows are just piled with hats. I dream of just digging through the piles and feeling felt up to my neck.140 Bowery.
