Amazing how much fuller figured the girls look in this swimsuits than say... modern Sports Illustrated or VS. Sorry, I know that's slightly off topic and totally obvious, but it really struck me.

She was quite beautiful in Dr. No. But man, whatever happened to men wearing swimming shorts with a good rise? The modern equivalent generally falls below the knees, and worn about four or more inches from the belly button; the navel. Me, I don't own any retro swim trunks, but the ones I do have I'm able to get up to just right about the navel (I wear them an inch below, usually), and their length is above the knees (they're not very short though). Did this trend start after the 1980s, because even then swimming trunks for men seemed to have been rather short. Think "short shorts." I know Europeans probably still wear these, but I'm asking about the United States in particular.

I would have to respectfully disagree with that. Maybe a nice flip flop or a shower shoe, or even a piece of animal fur tied around each foot with some thin rope but sandals and socks.....no way!

It's like when you hear so many people saying "Oh Marilyn was fat - she was a size 16" - this has been proven to be wrong so many times (you only have to look at her to know this was never the case!) - people still can't seem to get their heads around vintage sizing - and maybe using their eyes - to see she was never that size - not even when she was at her heaviest.

I'll second that! Although Liz Taylor is pretty hot to trot in her swimsuit too. Bring back the hour glass figure, i loathe seeing all these pictures of today's starlets looking bi-afran on the beach with with what look like horrid stuck-on circus breasts!
