I think your hair is gorgeous Fraeulein! I wish my middy/set had turned out like that. Maybe I should pin curl it.... I was hoping the middy cut with my naturally curly hair would look good, but, it doesn't! :(

Welcome Miss C!

BD, my hair is similar to yours (and I think your natural curl with the middy cut looks nice). I've had my middy cut now for a little over a month (probably needs a trim). Anyway, I tend to wash & let dry naturally, that way I get a day or two of natural curl & then I'll get out the heated rollers, if I'm lucky I'll get 2 or 3 days out of the set.

Oh & yes, Miss Fraulein your do looks lovely :)

Hello ladies, have been a lurked for a while, just wanted to say "hello" and that I got my first middy cut on Saturday!
Went armed with photos and diagrams and left wgeextremely pleased! She straightened it to make sure all was level, so I knew how it would look. Last night i tried the headband set, but I must be a fidget as most had come out of bande this morning Next time may just try in the day!
This was my first step into vintage, so I feel a lot of practise with pincurls and rollers is heading my way!
Cx

I have the same problem with my hair slipping out of the headband, but I do put some bob pins around the headband to keep rogue hair outta the way. I will sleep on it like that, and it doesn't bother me any more than sleeping in pin curls.

Thank you girls! I'm glad of the compliments - you can never get too many!

I did try to do alternating rows of pin-curls, but I kept forgetting which way I'd just gone and getting mixed up at the back. :( I have the Vintage Hairstyling book which has a really good diagram, but unfortunately I couldn't bring it to Russia with me. How do you remember/which way do you roll at the back? I mean, say you start clockwise on the left-hand side... do you keep going the same direction the whole way round, so that it ends up being anti-clockwise on the same row on the right-hand side?

I can't use other rollers in my hair - any other time I've tried it it's turned into a big frizzy mess! Sponge rollers and hot rollers seem to work, although, again, I couldn't bring the heated ones with me!

I didn't realise that winding the curlers too tight would be a problem - I'll try and wind them more loosely next time and see how it brushes out!

Miss C, good luck! I LOVE my middy!

Hi Lolly,

My best results are similar to what you do. Wash and then let dry with natural curl. However, when may hair is let to dry with its natural curl..it tends to look like I have two haircuts going on! Ha ha. So, I have to pop in a few hot rollers in the front to loosen the natural curl. Then it looks amazing!

Oh and Black Dahlia - I thought your hair looked lovely natural - very film noir! I bet you'll look a complete knock-out once it's set...!

Thank you Fraeulein! That was my hair very brushed out. My natural curl is very tight. Funny how we women always want something else. Those with straight hair want curly and vice versa. Those with curly, want a different kind of curl.....haha

I like my curly hair a LOT and wouldn't change it - mine are not really really tight, but they are WILD, haha! - it's just a pain trying to make it do anything else! This is my natural hair (and me making a face at the camera, haha!):

Your hair looks great and I love your dress! I too am a Poirot fan (and other mysteries).

A pic of my natural curl...before the middy cut.

Erm, Black Dhalia, are you kidding? You look GREAT! I love the natural hair... you don't even need to brush it out! My natural hair will NOT be brushed out. It gets a little too frizz-happy. I like my natural hair but it doesn't look as "vintage" as I'd like...!

And thanks, that dress cost £4 and has served me well! I normally wear my hair piled on top of my head with it to counteract the high-neck-large-breast drama going on, haha.

That was a lucky day, no frizz. Only comes about once a year! ha ha.

I understand the hair to neckline and bust balancing act! ;0

You look sublime! Gimme that dress!!!

Sure thing! ;0 Can you believe that was at Detox a couple of years ago?

Black Dahlia I wish that my hair just did that naturally. I'm so jealous.

Also in reference to brushing your hair into waves. It really helps if it's set right first. I would either do finger waves or rows of pincurls in alternating directions. When I do rows of pincurls in alternating directions it seems to just brush into that shape naturally. But what you'd want to do is brush it out first just to get the curls to be less crazy. Then you would take your brush (it really should be a boar brush or at the least a natural bristle brush) and comb along with the directions of the wave. If the wave isn't defined enough you could then take some duck bill clips and place them in between your waves and spray some hairspray to help define them. I hope that makes sense.
Does everybody know how to fingerwave? If people would like I'll make a tutorial on doing them and brushing them out. Fingerwaves are literally paying my bills right now.

Here you go Zombi.

http://youtu.be/1vJJI3LL4U8

I found something I had made for a friend awhile ago and had put on youtube and then taken off. It's really basic and doesn't go into how to do a whole style with fingerwaves, but shows the basic technique. Let me know if that helps you or if it isn't helpful let me know what you don't understand.

Also that's an unstyled middy in the video that I just left a little longer in the front.
