Juliet- Pretty much, yes. There is a layer every inch or so. It's almost identical to the last diagram, they way my stylist cuts it. She sections out the crown and starts there, does the back and then the sides last.

My scheduled appointment will be in October, and I'm quite determined to have a middy-cut :) (and a tad nervous)
I measured my lowest layer, and it's 4 inches, so I guess it's just right for a middy. my only concern is how the middy looks un-curled. Although my hair nearly always set, so maybe that's not a big problem anyway! :)

Thanks, SheBear! Has the humidity around here been killing your curls? It sure has mine!

Zombi, sponge rollers were all I used for the first two years. I'm glad I held onto them!

On to diagrams...

I posted these in the "Show Us" thread but I wanted them to be found here as well. Inky (dunno where she's been, I miss her) has the Femme Fatale diagram in her Flickr, and it's a better scan than I have.

Here is all of the cuts in the book: http://vintagehair.livejournal.com/3645.html

And I just found the other one. Crude, but it makes sense and my stylist appreciated it!

Big time! I started out with a great set this morning and by the time I got home it was frizz city! :p

From that set three days ago I still have a lot of curl, except around my face and neck, basically wherever it touched skin. Frustrating, isn't it?

I am now the proud owner of a middy! Have been for a week or two, but I haven't had a chance to post/take a decent photo. I love it! It actually doesn't look that different unset from my old style, which is fine by me, but it looks SO much better set! Thank you for the encouragement and question-replies... I'll get a photo up as soon as I have a decent one!

Hi Ladies,

I too got the middy cut. Here are two pics of it, with my natural curl (brushed out). I haven't set it yet, so I don't know what it will look like!

I've read this thread front to back! Thanks for all the pics and pointers. My middy is happening Thursday and I have copied/pasted and emailed c-dot's tutorial to my hairdresser that I trust. She said she hasn't done it in a while, but is confident she can do it. I am pretty confident in her skill as well. I am a new member and I am relatively new to dressing vintage daily. I've found that with my body type that 40's and 50's styles are perfect for me. I hope to be more active, and I can't wait to post pics!

^ I can't wait to see your photos, navygoddess!

I also can't wait for my hair to grow out so I can rock the middy with the rest of you lovely ladies!

BlackDahlia - Your 'natural' hair looks very similar to mine when I let it air dry. Looks great!

I did the set with an elastic headband! I am so excited about the results. By far the easiest set I have ever done and the most comfortable to sleep in, hands down. Being a nurse that wakes up at 0400, that last part is the most important part! :D
I wanted to get hot sticks and try it, but all the wal-marts around me are out of stock! What is this run on hot sticks all about?? No matter, the headband set seems to work well, and no heat. If it isn't broke, dont fix it, I guess!

Your hair looks great! I love the headband set. Easy, isn't it, and you can wear it as is for chores and workout, as an alternative to a ponytail.

I like it!!!

I've found multiple sets of hot sticks at garage sales for around $2/set. In my area it seems people are buying them and then unloading them in a sale. lol I also found a brand new pack of pillow rollers at a sale last weekend for $1.

Oh, boy. I need to get out and look. I've been so busy that I haven't had time for garage sale hopping. My hair is still holding up and I've been chasing my kindergartener patient around all day! I've gotten a ton of compliments as well. I am extremely pleased.
