thats gorgeous 40

you really uncover a lot of gems ... I need to start hanging out with you
+2 Another stunner, 40! One of my Mallory's calls the Cavanagh Edge treatment "Duplex Edge". Although yours is an earlier example and they may have had another name for this edge treatment then.

I think from now on I will use the term "Duplex Edge". I love info like this! Thanks Tommy

40, seems many of the brands immitated this edge treatment and came up with their own name for it;
Stetson-Mode Edge
Dobbs-Guild Edge
Knox-Custom Edge...........All right that's all of them I can remember right now without digging out some hats!

Mallory "The Dallas." Purchased from a lady in Roswell, GA. This one is a very deep charcoal color. It's in great condition, almost looking like it was just driven off the showroom floor.

While not shown (it fell out while I was applying Lexol to the sweat band), the size tag is paper, so I'm going to assume this is early to mid-50s, but any additional help on dating would be appreciated. As you can see, it was purchased from The Men's Shop in Winchester Tennessee. I did a little poking around and found this:

The movie being promoted, "Julia Misbehaves," with Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon, came out in 1948. I have not been able to find out any more on this store or it's years of operation. I guess, since Stetson had the factory in Winchester (what is now Winchester Hat Corp), maybe it was even produced there. Was Stetson's Winchester factory limited to felting, or did they produce finished product? Anyway, I thought it was kinda cool it came from Winchester.

Fruno, I lived in that area in the late 70's (Tullahoma) and Winchester Hat Corp. was a customer of mine. At that time I believe they were only doing felting. I can't say if they ever made hats there though during my time there they did have an outlet store.

The building in your photo is still there.

I'm unfamiliar with the factory; however, the site I found the photo above is the Winchester, TN, site, and they had some historical photos up. They also referred to a Stetson factory being once in Winchester, so I assumed that morphed into Winchester Hat Corp. I'm sure somebody around here knows.
