Above thread, Buler has indicated that the "tombstone" logo has been bracketed in ads from 1925-35. I'd guess a little leeway is in order on the production, but given it's obvious age, that's a well-preserved specimen.

Cool! Great info! Thanks! I was thinking about a possible rationale for the term 'Pliafelt.' I was steaming and giving a light brushing when I notices the brim has a 'heather' look and while the crown is does not. Yet, it is as soft as a 'velvety/sued feel. Hope I'm making sense. The prefix 'Pli' could represent 'two' (2) Hence, 'Pli-a-felt.' Just a thought.

My submission to this thread, gentlemen. Recent rare find (for me) Mallory Pliafelt Gray. 3 inch whip-stiched brim w/all the bells and whistles of beautiful piece. Learned a bunch from the submissions in this this thread. But believe me. I only know what I know! :) Gotta do some research on Pliafelt and its popularity back in the day. In the meantime, I'm keeping this away from my mouth as I drool too often over this find.

Congrats, Doug. Really like the colour and ribbon on that Ten.

I don't know if I ever posted this one I got from Doc. Beautiful color and shape, but the brim had gone flat. Well, Mike Miller took care of that yesterday with some steam and an iron. Seems like new now! It always looked new and now it wears like new, too!

Rich chocolate brown felt
4 1/2 crown as shaped
1 5/8 brown grosgrain ribbon
2 1/2 front 2 3/8 sides dimensional brim with 3/8 bound edge

A real heavy brushing removed several decades of dirt, dust and cigarette smoke to reveal the absolutely beautiful rich chocolate brown felt on this Mallory Premier with whippet styling. The liner has the 1817 date which I believe indicates a post 1946 Stetson take over hat. My guess would be a 1950s hat. This hat very very much so looks and feels a whole heck of a lot like my whippet in it’s blocking, proportions and styling as well as felt quality. Really really happy with this hat. Definitely not bad for what the seller listed as a “Boys Size 7 Youth Dress Hat”.
