THE MALLORY MILE

Welcome to the Lounge, De Stijl. Nothing unfortunate about that Mallory or strange about that great ribbon with a back bow. Pork pie hats and back bows were a classic iconic1950s look. However, yours looks like it could be a short brimmed Fedora that works just as well as a Pork Pie. So, quite possibly later than the 50s, but nevertheless, one cool lid.

It is very smart and the backbow makes it just that bit more interesting ( and I think you're probably right about the short brimmed fedora ). The brim is 2" and the crown 4" but sadly it's a touch too small for me ( it's a 7 1/8 ) so it's off to Ebay and I'll try again with something that fits hopefully

Found this on an online auction and was able to get it for a good price. Not my size unfortunately. I think I can date it between 1911 and 1921 based on the store naming (and Mallory changing it's logo naming around 1920 -- see @buler 's postings earlier in this thread).

Great history to go along with that great hat Bob. It’s always cool to know where an oldie came from.
One might say you went the extra mile on that Mallory. Ha

Man, now that is cool. I only have one Mallory from the 50’s, and it is one of my favorites.

Very cool stuff on the history ! I guess since it’s too small you can always make a cool display for it.

That's amazing, Bob. Too bad about the size. Good research on the store, as usual, too. I'll bet that felt is great.

Thanks everyone. I wish it fit, but it was nice having it in hand even if for just a short while. More store pics here: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/show-us-your-vintage-hat-store.95776/page-8#post-2613448

recieved one of the greatest gifts I've been given

this is my great-great grandfather's Mallory. We found it going through some of my grandfathers belongings since we lost him a few months back. I've always heard stories about my great-grandfather from my grandfathe and the rest of the family, and almost every single one had a mention of this hat.

we all thought it was long gone

i can't stop smiling

(yes, I'm going to fix it up)

Fantastic, Justin! How great is that?

A little mink oil and that sweat will bounce right back.

Wow, that is awesome ! Are there any family pictures with him wearing it ? That would be very cool to display with the hat.

Fan-freakin’-tastic, Justin!!!!
The Fickle Finger of Fate has pointed positively and properly in your direction, sir! Like it was waiting, no, hiding until you were ready. It knew YOU were waiting, and now ready! All the special hat history aspects of this find pale in comparison to the family provenance. Congrats!!
