Great research. I really enjoy the history behind the art.As a Historian and research freak, I try to do due diligence (reading hundreds of Mallory posts) before posting my question. I recently picked up a Mallory "Eagle" off Ebay. The knowledge on the Lounge seems to date this model in the early sixties. There is no mention of Stetson anywhere on the hat which backdates it from the mid 60s. It has a number of features that speak to this, black sweat, 2" brim, and a 4 3/4" crown. The monkey wrench in this dating scenario is the store logo imprint on the sweat. This hat is from Hot Springs N.M. now Truth or Consequences, NM., The Barnes Dept. Store does not exist anymore. The city changed its name in March 1950 after a challenge from the popular TV game show. They broadcasted from the NM town the next day...
If this hat is indeed early 1960s, I wonder how long Hot Springs NM kept touting it's name change from 1950. Ten years of using both city names and "now" seems to be a long time. I dunno, did Mallory use the "Eagle" model name earlier, say - mid 50s? The price tag is $11.95. I like hats that tell some kind of historical story and this one sure does!
I passed this one on to @OldStrummer last week. He needed a vintage hat. Some good ole' pay it forward Lounge karma. Recently a post of a store display when the model was introduced by both Stetson and Mallory showed up. It was from 1962 or so. I find it interesting that they were still promoting the former name of Hot Springs ten years after the change.Great research. I really enjoy the history behind the art.

Good looking, the brim binding is special.Well, this one has already made an appearance in WHAYWT, but I've been waiting for some of the drear to dissipate around here to take some good shots. Finally a little sun today. Won this on eBay a couple of weeks ago. The color is a very dark grey, hard to pick up in the pics. It features an interesting, uneven brim binding. The bottom binding is wider than the top, leaving a line of stitching around the top of the brim edge. I've seen this on other hats, but this is the first one I've owned like this. Also, factory Shark Gills. Always a treat, and a wind trolley. It also features a very nice red liner, which is identical to the liner in my Dallas. This makes my fourth Post-Stetson Mallory. I'm yet to find an earlier one.

Love this interesting Wilson hat Justin. A piece of history. I did a preliminary search on the store in Wisconsin. I found the Historic District application (unknown date) and found the store listed as "Alf D. Barnett Clothing" on the list. It was a Polish immigrant area of Milwaukee. Interesting read about the neighborhood that this hat was originally sold in.c.1930s Wilson Supreme Quality

Mallory Fifteen in Pliafelt with some gorgeous shark's gills. The hat came up on a BIN for $50. I almost broke a finger... The felt is dress weight, very substantial. It took a dry crease well. The sweat is also quite nice, very good condition. Tags underneath are waiting for another application of Pecards and then a peek. The wider brim binding is nice. The only problem is a through and through moth chewing right in the middle of the crown. Battle scars. I'm hoping for some dating clues under the sweat, it just feels like the early 1950s. Mallory 1817 date in liner logo.
