Handling a hat like this truly exposes what a different beast men’s headwear once was.

The hat doesn’t show any signs of ever being worn.

The felt is unbelievably thin and dense ... it gives you that crisp crush under your finger tips that you only get with hats from this era and before.

very appealing rich colors and superb craftsmanship.
The brim wearing a beautifully executed delicate underwelt

I applied a simple dry center crease for the photos ... I do not yet know what crease will live in this hat

I hope you enjoy a few photos

Really nice looking Mallory you've got there. You can't remember where and when you got it? Sounds like a bad case of the collectors' bug to me:)

This is my first Mallory. I believe it's from the 40s so correct my if I'm wrong. I have other gray vintage fedoras but the binding on this is a bit different and it the reason I purchased it. The brim binding is not evenly distributed on top and bottom. Most of it is on top with just a small amount under the brim. And the way it is stitched is interesting. It appears the ribbon for the brim was stitched on the bottom first but without the ribbon being wrapped around to the topside. The stitching for the bottom can not be seen from the topside of the brim. The stitching for the top can be seen from the bottom. The last two pictures show what I am trying to describe. The sweatband was replaced by Scott aka Bond from FineVintageFedoras.

I picked this up recently and wondering if anyone can shed some light as to the model, felt quality, and rough age of the hat? Is it meant to be rollable? Is the front brim meant to sit flat? The rest of it snaps except the front. Despite being pretty soft felt, I don't want to do anything harsh to it.

There hasn't been a single source stating what Aristocrat Quality equates to, just bits, pieces and guesses. The department store on the sweatband lasted from 1927-1981 so that narrows it down to 54 years.

It will visit the local hat shop to see what they think and a possible sweatband re-stitch plus smoothing out the crown. Its a little worn; besides showing creases, it doesn't hold its shape very well nor does it crease well dry.
