We can attribute the super sized portions here to competition amongst eateries they say. There is probaly something to that. I'm one of those people that doesn't believe in wasting food so I usually finish it all.

Not sure if anyone here watches Alton Brown ... but I saw an episode once in which he gave a scientific explanation of why certain foods are better the next day.

It was truly fascinating ... in fact, in the dish (stew?) he cooked on that episode, he slow cooked the meat and then intentionally chilled it overnight before throwing it in the pot. Fantastic!!!

The times I've been to Europe, I've never really needed to take home leftovers--portion sizes were just right, not the huge two-meal plates we get served here.
While I mostly agree, I assume you have never ordered a ham-hock with potatoes and 'kraut in Germany. That can be a gut-buster!

I never have leftovers. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 stray/neighborhood cats that I share with. I also cannot go to bed unless I put out something for the opossums, because they are here most nights & I like to encourage them because they eat the slugs off the porch.

because i am the only vegetarian in my family, i technically eat leftovers most of the time. my husband cooks for himself and the boys and on weekends, i cook a big pot of something and eat it the rest of the week.By the end of the week i can't even look at it.I am not creative enough with food to know how to turn leftovers into something else, but my husband is a whiz. the kids never know what hit them.

I make leftovers. Though I often calculate so there are no leftovers, sometimes I don't calculate correctly, and I assume that big meat purchases will be used several times. I can get about 3-5 meals out of a 3-4 lb chicken for the mister and me. First roasted, then the wings and drumsticks, then a chicken stew, and finally a soup. Sometimes I have enough for sandwiches somewhere in the middle there. It's a similar story with a roast or a ham.

And I always get a take out box from the restaurant. I can almost never finish what I am served! :)
