I was wondering if others in the Lounge loved Clayton Moore as the Lone Ranger as much as I did. Saturday morning was eagerly awaited for the show each week by me.

Never got next to the movie with that dumb kid in it cause Clayton Moore was THE only Ranger. He really believed in and lived the Ranger creedo of honesty and integrety too.

I have never forgiven the Wrather Corp. for barring him from wearing the mask in his own personal appearances later in life either.:( :rage:

The Lone Ranger was a childhood hero of mine! My mom made me a Lone Ranger outfit to wear when I was young, and I had the Mattel Fanner 50's Lone Ranger gun set to go with it. Alas, we could never find a white hat, so I had to settle for a black one.:(

Clayton Moore is the ONLY Lone Ranger, as far as I'm concerned.

I saw the pilot of the remake on the WB and it...was about as dreadful as you could possibly imagine. I'm not familiar with the original but I am fairly certain Tae Kwon Do and dynamite weren't big parts of his skill-set?

Even though we were two little white kids, by best childhood friend was REALLY into Indian culture, so he had no problem being Tonto to my Lone Ranger when we played.

Another cool thing about Clayton Moore was that he didn't smoke or drink in public because he didn't want kids thinking that The Lone Ranger engaged in such behavior. I also liked how he got around the Wrather Corp's "cease and desist" order by wearing large, wraparound sunglasses for his later public appearances. A true hero!

Lone Ranger

I can hear the 'William Tell' overture even now, and see Clayton Moore
with Jay Silverwheels in memory. An outstanding role model for my generation, Chicago-native Moore was also a WWII air corps veteran.

I loved The Lone Ranger when I was a kid. I used to watch it back-to-back with The Cisco Kid every day. You may want to seek out some of the old radio shows that preceded the TV version. There are well over a thousand surviving episodes. If memory serves, three different actors played the Lone Ranger over the 33-year run of the show, the last and most famous of which was Brace Beemer.

I thought Clayton Moore was great.
I don't actually like the comics or radio show of the Lone Ranger much but love the show.
I'm also a fan of C.M. in all the old serials he was in.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

Better than Cartoons..

I would run home from school to watch Lone Ranger and Wild, Wild West...better than cartoons.

Of course there is the classical Lone Ranger/Tonto/Snake joke but it wouldn't be appropriate in the forum.

Radar Men from the Moon! Truly, art in its highest form!

Okeh, now that was just mean. lol
I'm not they were great art, just that I enjoyed them.;)
Plus Mr. Moore looked good in a suit and fedora.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

An older lady in our congregation played golf with Jay Silverheels back in the fifties when she was just a teen-ager. She didn't recognize him at first, but late in the game she realized who he was by the sound of his voice. She was thrilled! Love the Ranger! "What do you mean WE white man?" is a great punchline if you're familiar with the joke.

As a kid born in 1950, I grew up with The Lone Ranger and every other Western of the 50's and 60's. My parents decided that TV was going to be part of the American household, and they bought their first one around 1952 or 1953.

I still remember when dad brought home our first color TV in the mid-60's. He said something to the effect of: this is part of our society now, and we're going to see what's going on in color.

To me, the most memorable aspect of Clayton Moore's performance was his incredible voice. He had one of the MOST distinctive voices in Hollywood, and you could always tell when he spoke. I loved those pipes!

I was in a bar in an Atlanta hotel a few years back and met a rock and roll dj from North Carolina. He told me a story about working with Clayton Moore. The dj used to do promotional spots for his radio station for business openings and sales. He was working at a car dealership, and the dealership also hired Clayton to do a personal appearance. Afterwards, the dj and his crew agreed to give Clayton a ride. This was 20 or 30 years ago, and the rock and roll guys were a pretty scruffy looking bunch in a pretty run down automobile. As they were driving, they got into an accident with a guy driving a brand new car and wearing a suit. There was an argument about who was at fault, with the guy in the suit asking who the police were going to believe, the rock and roll guys or a responsible citizen. That was the point when Clayton got out of the car and said "They'll believe me." That was the end of the dispute.

Lone Ranger was a favorite of mine growing up. I used to watch it every Sunday with my dad. It was our ritual after church. I even remember my grandpa taking me to the Benjamin Franklin' 5 & Dime and buying me the Lone Ranger and Tonto Action Figure Set with the horses Scout and Silver.
