On a tangent

An obscure movie from 1987, DUDES is a weird twist where the spirit of the Lone Ranger and Tonto help a pair of NYC punks get justice.

I'd like to see an updated telling of the Lone Ranger tale, set in the current-day west.
Would they ride Harleys?
Who would you cast for both roles?

I was in a bar in an Atlanta hotel a few years back and met a rock and roll dj from North Carolina. He told me a story about working with Clayton Moore. The dj used to do promotional spots for his radio station for business openings and sales. He was working at a car dealership, and the dealership also hired Clayton to do a personal appearance. Afterwards, the dj and his crew agreed to give Clayton a ride. This was 20 or 30 years ago, and the rock and roll guys were a pretty scruffy looking bunch in a pretty run down automobile. As they were driving, they got into an accident with a guy driving a brand new car and wearing a suit. There was an argument about who was at fault, with the guy in the suit asking who the police were going to believe, the rock and roll guys or a responsible citizen. That was the point when Clayton got out of the car and said "They'll believe me." That was the end of the dispute.

That dj's name was Jay Thomas -- he told the story on Letterman recently:

Clayton Moore was fantastic. It was a Sunday ritual after church for my dad and I to go home and watch The Lone Ranger and then The Rifleman when I was a kid. I have fond memories with my dad watching that. I still have my Lone Ranger and Tonto actioin figures.

Clayton Moore was that Masked Man. I just love the Lone Ranger and Clayton Moore will always be the true Lone Ranger. I have an autographed picture of him and Silver. I think it would be cool if they did an updated version. They kind of did that with the Green Hornet. The Green Hornet was the grand nephew of the Lone Ranger. If they did a modern version, I don't know of anyone in Hokeywood that could even wear the mask. Majority of the actors today are not even good enough to even polish the Mask Man's boots much less wear the mask.

What Ever Happened to Randolph Scott....

My late father and I watched The Lone Ranger every Saturday morning(no cartoons for this kid). After it was the Riffleman, Wild Wild West, Big Valley, Bonanza, etc.... I love those old shows and now my son and I watch them on DVD together. As a four year old my son loved to watch, as he called him, "High Silver". It was a good quality program, too bad they don't make 'em like that anymore, but they also don't make men like Clayton Moore, Randolph Scott, or William Boyd(Hop-A-Long Cassidy) any more either:( .

Regards,
J.S.
