Ok, I've been looking everwhere, and I can't seem to find any images.

in the recently released Marx Brothers Collection, there is a Vintage Our Gang Comedy Short Dog Daze and Classic MGM Cartoon Jitterbug Follies

There is also a Donald & Daisy Duck cartoon titled Oh Boy, What a Jitterbug! But, as this has no actual bug, I don't think its what your looking for.

Another Possiblity is :
Make Mine Music: two animated sequences from this Disney feature in 1945—
a jitterbug cartoon with Benny Goodman and his orchestra and chorus perform All the Cats Join In.

or

I'm Just a Jitterbug (1939) Directed by Alex Lovy- The only one i could find images for:
http://lantz.goldenagecartoons.com/1939.html

Let me know if any of these titles sound familar - I'll keep looking!

I Found It!

Thanks so much for your help Carpecaligo. It wasn't in the images you found, but it did look a lot like the second image in the 'I'm Just A Jitterbug' link. I really appreciate your helping me out, though. Actually, I found the Jitterbug in an unexpected place.

I was doing a dance demo at an outdoor venue and had called some of the dancers I knew from local clubs to come help out. Since it was hot out, and the band was rockabilly, the clothes were more of a laid-back vintage. Halter tops, cuffed jeans, t-shirts, and such. Anyway, I found the jitterbug on the arm of a guy I've danced with many times! I'd never seen it before since he was usually in a dress shirt at the clubs. Of course in the discussion about tattoos I also got to see that he also has flames tattoo'd around his ankles! It's funny how things turn out.

Thanks again for your help. I'll post a pic of the jitterbug soon, so you can see it. T.

I love that idea as a tattoo. It's makes so much sense to get something that really means something to you.
I have to get some cover-up work done, because at 19 I picked something stupid off a wall.(Of course,if it's something you really love there's nothing wrong with that either,I didn't know myself well at the time)
My husband got his first tattoo on our honeymoon in Hawaii. He is obsessed with Tikis and the island lifestyle so he bought a tiki statue and had that tattooed.Perfect,I'm so envious.

Rubyredlocks-
Thanks. I think the jitterbug suits me. I grew up on swing and roots music and dancing. And he's a cute little character. I won't mind explaining him to grandkids someday! I'd been thinking about getting a tattoo for years now. But I really wanted it to be 'me'. I figured, 'if I find the right design, I'll know it'. When I saw the jitterbug, I thought, 'THAT'S IT!' :)

My husband wanted to get a tattoo while he was in the Navy ( it was one of the few things sailors are famous for that I'd allow ;) ). His plan was to get one while he we were in Italy, and he was thinking of Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes. He decided against it feeling that he wasn't THAT into the cartoon. He's glad now that he didn't since we see Calvin on the back of every other pick-up truck on the road! Personally, I don't think he'd have gone through with it anyway, he's pretty funny about needles.

Do you know have a plan for your cover up work yet? And I may I ask if you have other tattoos? I'm also looking at a second one that will reflect my drumming and rockabilly side. I'd like it to be somewhat my own design, so I'm working on an idea with the guy who's going to do the jitterbug for me.

Biltmore Bob-
I like Felix, too. He's simple, cool. Not something everyone has. Kind of like the jitterbug character. Was it your favorite cartoon, or just the cat himself that made you choose him?

At first I wanted Betty Boop, but it was too popular. Then I wanted Alfred E. Newman, Too ugly...I decided on a plain black Felix because he is from the era too and my artist had never done one so I figured no one else had one. My kids have a bunch of Felix DVDs and Tapes...

I'm glad you found the image you were looking for - sorry I wasn't of much help, but it wasn't online at all.

I've sketched out a couple tattoo images I want - I have one in particular that I'm fond of, But I'm going to wait, and if I still like it in two years, i'm going to go ahead and get it done.

What I really like is the Sailor Jerry style tattoos, I would love to get two of the sparrows (one on each shoulder blade) but it seems like everyone has them.

Just me but...I don't think beautiful girls should get tattoos. Especially where they can be seen by anybody...like I said, it's just my opinion. That whole lower back tribal thing turns me right off too. I think a small nice feminine tattoo located somewhere on the body intimate but not too intimate, because the artist has to put it there, is nice. I had a girlfriend once who had a mouse pushing a lawn mower on her pubic area, whenever I saw it I couldn't help but think of the freebie shot the tattoo artist got.

Glad you said something, Bob. I figured if I chimed in that tattoos only belong on sailors and bikers, I'd catch a lot of flak!

Just what do you mean by that, Brad??!!!
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
I'm not much for getting a tattoo myself for two reasons: A) I'm not in the merchant marines and II) I'm too fickle. I can just see me getting a tattoo of Bugs Bunny and then deciding Daffy would have been better, no, Tex Avery's wolf, no, wait, Veronica Lake, or Ann Sheridan, hold on, I mean.....

Sincerely,
The Wolf

I agree tattoos can look awful, especially "fashionable" ones that have novelty value at the time, but look out of place as one ages (not to mention dating you to a particular fad or trend!). It's especially true on women, partially because of people's perceptions, but also big colourful designs can look overwhelming on smaller/more delicate frames or features.

I have several tattoos, but you wouldn't think it to look at me. :p They're in places that are both easily exhibitable and easily hidden, but don't tend to be seen because I prefer long pants/skirts and sleeves. I'd get more, but don't have the money. :(

I don't really understand the depth of distaste some people have for tattoos, especially on women (of course, I grew up surrounded by them, and live in a country where (real) tribal tattoos are a mark of status and tribe heredity, so they're normal to me). Most of the time I don't even remember I have mine until someone reminds me! :p To me they're just marks of my life, outward representations of internal commitments and past events. Now piercings, on the other hand... [bad]

Biltmore Bob and Brad Bowers - I think it's fine you that you guys joined in! And I agree with some of your points. Obviously, I'm not opposed to girls getting tattoos. But I agree that something small and discreet is better, for me anyway. But like you said, not too intimate! If I had to bare all to get it done, I'd feel like I cheated on my husband, and I'm sure he'd feel that way, too. Both of the designs I'm looking at will be done pretty small, and both will only show when I want them to. Especially the rockabilly one. It'll only show when I'm wearing a halter top ;) .

I like what Angelicious said here ----- "I agree tattoos can look awful, especially "fashionable" ones that have novelty value at the time, but look out of place as one ages (not to mention dating you to a particular fad or trend!). I see a lot more girls with "fashion" tattoos (including the lower back ones) and wonder how many are going to wish they hadn't gotten them later. It's taken me about 9 years to decide what I want. Though I've seen others with the jitterbug, it's still not really common, and for me it represents an era I've loved since I was small. Also, in small form I think it's tasteful enough to carry on to old age. I won't mind having it at 80 or so. If someone asks about it then, they'll get one heck of a history lesson!

Carpecaligo has a good idea, too. Pick something, or design it, then wait to see how you feel about it after a couple of years.

And The Wolf...how about the Three Little Bops, or Gloria De Haven?

Trickeration-
I have 3,all of which I'd like to change.I thought of having them removed, but heard it's more painful than getting one and doesn't work well.Plus,I really like tattoos just not what I picked.
One of course being the lower back tribal tattoo.
I have an idea of what I want, but not sure if it will work or if I can find a tattoo artist that will understand.
I like the idea of traditional tattoos, but would like it drawn with an Art Deco feel.
Deep red roses drawn in that style and situated like corners of a frame, then covering my tribal with the same roses.
One of Vargas more 30's looking pinups in the middle of my back.
I'll have to wait and see if that will work or not,may have to change my plan.

Show us pics when you get yours, that is so cute!

I have a couple of friends who are tattoo artists and putting a tattoo in a private area is nothing special, they do that sort of work often and just take a professional adittude towards it.
They don't consider it a "bonus" or a "freebie shot."

Tacky images that everyone seems to have (a popular tribal image, rose or a butterfly, for instance) are unappealing to me, But I intend on getting a well placed tattoo with meaning and good-design.

I have a Pooh Bear tattoo on my ankle. I'm like Rubyred in that I'm glad I got it but I wish I had done it up in a different design of Pooh. I've loved Pooh since I was a baby and my oldest stuffed animal is a Pooh. If I ever get another one (which I doubt I will), it'd be of this:

Sigh...

Nothing makes me more sad than a pretty girl with a tattoo. It's like, painting a picture of a flaming skull on the Mona Lisa...it's just ugly!

It seems like it is so rare these days to find a girl without a tattoo, that it seems so much more special. My best friends girlfriend has both the asian writing, and the butterfly on the lower back and he hates them both.

I personally think that tattoos should not be worn by the majority of people. Most people are not very creative to start, so it doesn't make sense why they feel that suddenly they are going to come up with some amazing design that will be worthy of a lifetime.

Anyway....to me...tattoos on girls basically just make it more easy for me to pick out the girls I would like to know and the ones I don't. You may call me shallow, but to me, it seems that based on the tattoo, you can really judge a lot from a person....for example, people with butterfly tattoos proably don't think too much, because if they did...well they wouldn't have a butterfly.

Is it ok for the ugly girls to have tattoos then?

And if that is your criteria for judging a whole human being, then it makes me quite glad that you would never want to get to know me, sir.

About ten years ago, I worked with a girl that had tattoos over 40-50% of her body. At first, I figured she was a weird girl, but the more I got to know her, the more I realized she was pretty cool. So now, I don't judge people by their tattoos. Both my younger brother and sister have tattoos, so I don't think any less of them. But I still don't understand why someone would want to permanently disfigure themselves - that includes body piercings. I guess I'm an old fuddy-duddy that way. Of course, I freak out when I see people writing phone numbers on their hands, too, so maybe I'm not one to speak.

Glad you got to know the person and found out they were cool.

See I look at it like this, every person expresses themselves in some way that is unacceptable to others. People probably think people wearing hats in this day and age is odd and wrong. I dislike women wearing skin tight pants to work, but that doesn't stop them from expressing themselves that way.

Its very much a 'everyone is odd and bizzare and strange' in their own way, situation. If I cut the people I think are odd, some slack, they then cut me some slack where they think I am odd and the world is a kinder, more understanding place in general.
