I loved the Hardy Boys books! They were more interesting than Nancy Drew, who bored me at times.
Edited to add: Most of the ones I read were probably the '30's versions--our public library was "old" and had great old books in circulation along with the new. I don't remember the colors of the covers, but I do remember asking my mom the meaning of various vintage terms, and her looking at me as if I'd come from another planet.
I also vaguely remember coming across some racist terms and being shocked by them, but keeping it to myself for fear that it may lead to the Boys' final banishment.
