I've been thinking it would be fun to have a thread for rare and/or unique hats, no matter if they're grail hats or not.
I know @alanfgag has a cork hat which I hope he will post here, for example.
I will start with my recent acquisition, a MacLachlan Golden Beaver Hundred.

A black Stetson Open Road. It is the only one I've seen.
I had my doubts on whether the sweatband really belonged to the hat, until Bowen suggested checking the numbers on the inside of the sweatband with the paper tags, and they turned out to be the same.
Someone curled the brim, and I meant

I remember this hat and quite a bit of discussion about it. I didn’t realize you got it Max.
To my recollection Perry is the only other black OR poster.

This is Stetson Ermine is one of the rarest hat's I've seen. Not mine, of course, but I think it belongs near the top of this nascent thread.
I copied all the pics from a thread created by Dinerman. The hat was listed on Ebay for 5000 dollars, but didn't sell. I contacted the seller, Cuban General Migoya's daughter, who lives in Florida (where else), and she said she was willing to sell it for the same price, but from her measurements and pics I gathered it was a very small hat. So small even I wouldn't be tempred to enlarge it.

Listed and re-listed on Ebay many times 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 was the last time I saw it listed. Made a 1K offer on it years ago but was turned down. Likely it will never sell at that 5K price.

Which is your rarest hat, @AbbaDatDeHat?
Help me out getting the thread started.
I really do think rare hats are the most interesting, don't you think?
Hi Max, thanks for asking.
Thoughts:
I’d have to say my most rare hats would be the Hopalong Cassidy Valentine then the French Berteil then a couple others that are not so much rare as they are unique and not numerous.
By definition rare connotes few in number, scarce, not often seen or in terms of unusual, limited, interesting, all of which are subjective. What i find unusual or interesting is not necessarily shared by others. However when paired with limited numbers or rarely seen I think we all might agree a hat to be interesting no matter the style.
The Valentine is basically a “one off” without question, the Berteil is seldom seen, both unique, unusual and to me interesting.
I’ll have to get some fresh pics of both and a couple others i feel are unique.
In the mean time Max, you can keep this thread rolling for quite a good while, much to our enjoyment.
Good thread idea.

Thanks, B! You are right. "Rare" is to confining a word. I will see if I can change the name now

That picture came out better than the selfie! Glad you love the hat, a rare find right there in Mexico City!

Here is a hard to find hat:
Stetson Three-Way, gifted to me by @Just Daniel. He is one of the improvements in my life's enjoyment I owe to the Lounge.
The last pic is of he and I in Mexico City, shortly after he gifted me the hat.
