I see a lot of politics being discussed all the way through when it comes to discussing the causes of the slip in standards.

I would appreciate an 'official' response as to what qualifies and what does not, because without this its just a minefield...

Try addressing this, which was in the initiating post by the OP:

Talking about this later on a discussion came up about the general decline in standards and examples shown to children these days compared to 30-40 years ago. The opinion was that these days both parents have to work so leaving kids unsupervised and allowed generally to roam around on their own sometimes unchecked.

No need to discuss politics.

What's your opinion of children and standards today vs 30-40 years ago?

If you think that this does not involve politics....and it is not by any means a sole factor in the slip in standards. Sorry, no, I cannot see how you can discuss this in any detail without it including politics (and its fair enough to say "no politics" but after 290 pages?!)

A sign of the times (no pun intended). That this motel actually has to advertise that they're alcohol and drug free.

The ban on politics is posted in stickies and has been in effect for most of the life of The Fedora Lounge. We expect new members to read the rules, and abide by them.

The Fedora Lounge is for those who appreciate and have a fondness for the time period covering, roughly, 1920-1960. From your posts here, Mr. Stratford, you may be best to seek a board that is more in keeping with your interests.

How on earth do they manage to ensure/enforce that??? Unless guests are willing to allow searches of persons and luggage there is no way to make such a statement and have it be completely accurate.

And is it all drugs or just illegal drugs? Can you sneak in some aspirin or is that verboten too? How about nitro or asthma spray? Perfume contains alcohol. Can you bring it in but not drink it?

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Hi

Interesting. We have a low income housing complex down the street. When testifying at the local board (Not sure who anymore), the builder said that all of the renters would go through a Wichita Police Department back-ground check. The local (as in lived a few doors down) Wichita Police Department Officer stated that if SHE gave them that kind of data, SHE'D get fired. She wanted the details, and of course they didn't have them.

I'm not sure if you could keep drug dogs wandering the place or not. After all, we / they got rights.

A sign stating that you had to pass a blood test before getting a room would be kind of fun, even if you don't do the test.

Maybe they just don't SELL booze and drugs.

For what its worth, I agree with the ban on politics. I've been on boards where it's been allowed and after a while it's always caused arguments and bad feeling. Far better to stick to the interests we have in common.
