Well, that is incorporated into canon now actually. The helmets do have limited peripheral vision despite their heat/night vision and such according to some official sources I've read. George even purposefully showed Jango bumping his head in Episode II as an homage to that goof.

Really when you look at its themes , totally got ripped off by Trek.

And getting back to the uniforms or costumes...`60s trek costumes almost remind me of what ThomBrowne is trying to do with his kooky designs & high water trousers.
But then again its all an influence of the mod `60s.
And whimsy.

They had their reasons. It was one of the pilots, so they probably were asked to do something different. Spock's eyebrows, for one, were pretty ridiculous so they were toned down. (Not to mention, Nimoy admitted himself he didn't have the character down very well in his retrospective biography, I am Spock.) Regardless of whether Trek "ripped them off," I still have great fondness for that series.

I know Thom Browne doesn't get a whole lot of love here, but he does actually make wearable and well made clothes if you get past the kooky stuff and suit-capri-hems at his fashion shows. A little pricey though.

Nope, TB doesnt get a lot of love here. So I think its interesting that he is doing well & probably is one of the sparks for the SlimSuit which is very popular but not GoldenAge unless youre count the `60s.

Absolutely, the Pilot needed to be refined & developed. But Spock's makeup wasnt toned down til the series started. Note he has the same bad eyebrows in the second pilot. And he isnt even wearing science Blue.
Roddenberrry was still juggling ideas. After all Spock smiled in The Cage.

Oh, I think they got rid of the belts to keep the sleek look of no jkts & hats & no pockets in the future.
I did read that roddenberry didnt want holsters so velcro became the solution.

...but probably not for many other people. Helps if you're surrounded by wise-cracking robots, I think.

Check out the New Battlestar Galactica; while not strictly out future the clothes are subtly different and the Uniforms are strangely retro while having a modern flair.
Don't confuse the new with the Old. Old BSG is terrible, terrible!

Oh stop, I loved old BSG. It was huge when it premiered.
Lucas sued it over & over for fear of being eclipsed.

New BSG has an interesting low tech appeal & a darkness you dont see often in Sci-fi.

Dude, Lucas sued cuz he was scared. he stole & stole to create StarWars & then got scared cuz BSG was a top 20 hit.
he sued over the haircuts
he sued over the rogue pilot.
His sueing is one of the main reasons why the show was cancelled.
yes, he sued cuz the FX were similar & mightve been a reason why he created ILM.
Both shows had the same concept designer Ralph McQuarry.

StarWars is fun, but it was never original.
Roddenberry shouldve sued them for the title....
hell, Baltar played a Klingon before & after.

The StarWars Hioliday special came out in the same period & look how awful that was, Lucas was jsut scared he didnt have hte juice to follow up. He didnt even have the will to direct ESB.

He created it to develop new technologies for better realism for his movies, being dissatisfied with what was available at the time.
