I just noticed Thefedorastore.com has redone their website. They offer more options to narrow down a product with selectable searches. Looks like a new logo to me as well. If this is old news please just file it under the "seen it already" thread.

Yes it is new. Gone is the old style men in Fedora's and in with the hipster look in a Bad way.

Not loving the cloth hat feature. Hat would never work with that color coat. An that shirt and tie oh boy.

...Still, I'm enjoying those customizing options. I can see that making things much more tempting, but though I like my Beaver Brand hats (both Classic 5X) I'm not sure I'd pay $245 each for them.

Just to rub it in, Mr Hipster is giving us a Harvey Smith Salute.

Actually, I rather like the new design. The old one was really 1990's looking and needed updating badly.

Hi

Hope you like retirement Duane. I like the new website, but there are are a few mistakes. The Stetson Open Range is just labeled as a Range 4x in one place and there is an Open Range in another place. At least it seems like the same hat. There also seem to be more Stetsons on thefedorastore.com than there are on Stetson's own site.

I like the hat builder, but wonder why they (Beaver Brand) don't offer the hats in ANY color, after all they ARE kind of custom.

Can't address any of this except one would have to purchase felt in All colors. Not a good idea from a business standpoint.

NEw design is OK, and if I were the the new owners that's exactly the market I'd aim the store at too - go with the majority. They still have the same hats for the people who are going to search for them.

You hit that nail square on the head, Billy.

Yesterday, for the first time in a long time, I stopped in at Byrnie Utz, the hat store in downtown Seattle that has survived pretty much intact since its opening in 1934. I saw the new Whippet and Stratoliner (can't say anything about either of those models than hasn't already been covered at length around here) and checked out the new Borsalinos (starting at, gulp, $325) and the myriad other offerings. It appeared that business was going well, and for that I'm happy for them.

During a bit of hat chat with one of the clerks I learned that stingy brims are the hot sellers these days. And they sure got 'em.

So, if you're aiming for the largest market, sell Westerns (which have never really gone out of style) and, especially if you're in a largish (or bigger) city, stingy brims. The young, urban, hip (or striving to be) types are snappin' 'em up.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes. The hat business was really great to me for the 6 years I ran it. I started with not one cent, and grew from a listing on ebay to something larger than I cared to handle. It provided income for 6 years like I never saw in my entire life. Then, to be able to be handsomely rewarded for the years of work building up the site, that was icing on the cake. Now.... off to see the country! For the summer, I will be working 9 hours a week for my space in Prosser, WA, and try to get some hours in at the local wineries (hopefully on and off the clock!). Best wishes to all of you hat officianados, and thanks to those of you that helped support my business!

Duane

Hi Duane

My reasoning was that they're already buying felt in those colors, why worry about what shape it will be in later? At least I ASSUME that since the colors are on the website, that they sell hats in those colors?

Hi All,

We're the new owners of TheFedoraStore.com, and we just wanted to say thanks for checking out the new design. We're still getting our feet wet in the fedora (and hat) community and appreciate any feedback you guys have. If you have any tips or comments, you can feel free to post them here or send them to ecrabtree@oneclickventures.com (That's Erika - she's in charge of user feedback).

We're really excited about the store and about continuing the great service Duane started. Thanks!

P.S. - Thanks, 1961MJS, for the heads up on those products! We'll check them out.

An advanced Lounge title search for Fedora Store will turn up threads on this topic.
