It would be nice if we didn't have to sign in to see the light bulb that is used to change to the dark background.
Maybe I’m just missing the obvious, but is there still a way to search only the thread you are already in?
(On a laptop/desktop version): Once in a given thread, hover over the Search link at the top right (don't Click It). This should result in a drop-down-floater Search menu. The default checkbox (towards the bottom of the box/list) is "Search this oorum only," but you can select "Search this thread only" instead.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! This is in Safari on an iPhone and I’m still not seeing it. Probably “man eyes” as my wife would say...
Aha. It's not intuitive, but it's there.
Tap on three horizontal bars at very left of the menu bar at the top of your screen.

"Search" is the last item on the resulting menu; tap on it.

On the following screen, enter what you're looking for-- but before tapping the Search button at the bottom, make sure to tap the "Search in Forums" box.

This will bring up a scroll wheel of choices. Tap on "Hats" (because, where else would you want to look? ), then tap DONE, and then tap Search.
It's clumsy with all the extra steps, but it's there.
(If someone else has discovered a more direct path, I'd love to hear it.)

Thanks again for the efforts— it is appreciated! It’s still not getting me to the point of searching the thread I’m already in. It was so easy before.

Well, dang. You're right-- on both counts!
I can't even find a 'view full site' link once on my phone, nor what framework or software the site's using even once viewing the full site on my laptop.
[I just purposefully used my phone to visit a couple other forums I frequent. In each of these, the mobile version sports a magnifying glass at the top right of each forum's menu bar, and again within a given thread. If tapped within a thread, Search This Thread Only" is a clear option. The formatting contains more content as well, without being cluttered.]
Hopefully, there are further adaptations possible here going forward.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but when I view forums in Tapatalk on my Android phone, I can no longer distinguish read from unread threads. Before the update, threads where I was caught up had their title de-bolded. I miss this convenience, and would like to see it come back if possible.
This is a limitation on mobile at the moment. As Scuttle says, you can search within a thread on desktop. Browse to that thread, hover over search, and select the box that says "search this thread only."
Also there is no separate "desktop only" page. The site is fully responsive, which means if you're on mobile, some elements of the page are collapsed and disappear. We can play with these elements within reason.
Hope!
Well, isn't this a whole other ball o' wax?
Possibly even the bee's knees, once everything is maximized.
Thanks for your response, and the additional clarity. There's a lot going on here.

It's a shame that when reading a post or indeed replying, the page often jumps or drops as the ads kick in. It occurs on a couple of other sites I use; email & local weather forecast for example, which are full of ads. It's no big deal to realign the page but the ads often end up blocking everything & I have to switch off the computer manually & switch on again. I fear the Lounge may become a browser blocker too.. Incidently, this page has jumped 5 times while I've been typing this......Oop's,there she goes again, make that 6.
