I beg your pardon, Vincent "The Chin" Gigante was the (God)father of this look.

Yeah, but he was only *pretending* to be crazy.

I realize that I really don't get out much. I have never seen anyone out in public wearing pajamas. If I did see someone wearing pajamas, I'd think that he or she must have wandered out of some kind of mental treatment facility.

Alas, I am once again unable to keep up with modern fashion.

I work at a psych hospital and our patients would not want to go out in public in pajamas.

Visit a college town and you'll see a ton of pajamas on the street.

I liked the suits and shirts that Yohji Yamamoto made for the Japanese director/actor/comic/sadistic tv game show host/perpetual force on Nihon terebi Takeshi Kitano. Anyone else like those?
Pictures?

Those Italians are always ahead of the fashion curve. :)

Ha, all-day-jammies have been around forever in part of Belfast..... I've heard of a similar phenomenon in Liverpool and other cities too in the past few years. Hells, I'd rather see folks in some decent pjs strolling around than that hardy Summer perenial, the somewhat overweight man in nothing other than sawn off jeans and scratch tattoos.... ;)

I may be way off base here, but FWIW, I'm sure i remember readind that pjs as we know them were in origin a traditional form of daywear in the Middle East??

Good point. I shouldn't have put patients and people in pajamas in the same sentence, it's insulting to the patients who, as you point out, have more sense.

Sorry about that.

one of my professors puts a special paragraph in her morning class syllabus telling students to get dressed before coming to class...she doesn't want to see pajamas at all...

Ah, that's my big beef. Nothing worse than bad tattoos. A travesty.

There's a little family restaurant near my wife's doctor's office. Since he does a lot of outpatient surgeries on the abdomen, a lot of the patients show up in pajamas (soft and not binding on the surgical site) for their follow-up visits. This place is packed with people stopping in for lunch after their appointment because they are close and offer a variety of "soft diet" menu items. This is one time I think the pajamas outside can be understood.

I'm saving that article! The next time I have the flu and feel like hell and think "I've got to get showered and changed and go to the market for more Theraflu and some hot soup if I can just muster the strength & energy..." I know I can just put my big schlubby terry cloth robe over my flannel jammies & slippers, print out the article and tuck it up my sleeve, grab a wad of Kleenex and head for the market. If anyone gives me any crap, I just say "What? Don't you provincials follow fashion? This is the latest look from Paris - see, here's the article. You in those tacky outdated suits and ties...bah!"
