Thanks Douglas. Really an outstanding felt. The felt is in great shape while the sweatband is the opposite. I think its actually a 7-1/4 as the sweatband fits as a snug 7-1/4 or large 7-1/8 but appears to have shrunken slightly from the larger body. Definitely one of my select favorites.

Shame about the sweatband, but a wonderful looking hat! :eusa_clap

rlk -- incredible find. Congrats! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

I have always admired Douglas' Cross-Country -- a truly outstanding vintage lid. Nice to see another one pop up. Just beautiful.

Cheers,

What a guy to do?

That Cross Country needs to be worn, Robert. Put a new sweat band in it and you can use the old one as a centerpiece to a shrine - or add to any shrines you already may have. ;)

I think this one might be very well the evil twin. Now, where is Lieutenant Marlena Moreau? :)

Nice, is this also a "Vacation"?
(interesting obscure Star Trek reference)

Absolutely no argument about the felt. I'm curious rlk, is the felt really white or is it slightly off? Mine although in the light appears white has a definite yellow cast. A sweat can be replaced. I agree the non reeding affords a bit of give. I would put in a gross grain ribbon instead of leather until you can find suitable replacement. Reeding will add dimension and possibly make the fit less than comfy.

The color is a match to Art Fawcett's Ivory, a warm white(color of old-fashioned cream). I have some unused vintage sweatbands on the way from Germany which may be suitable if they can be successfully attached.

Zetwal, seems to be perfect.

It was still open and obviously unworn when I got it. I can't see a single blemish or stitch out of place. The sweatband is perfect. It is not the vacation model. It does have the NRA label, etc. It fits just right and I enjoy wearing it. ;)

It seems to be identical to mine other than the side perforations and the "Vacation" designation. Even the block number is the same #105. I really like this particular block. Good luck with the sweat.

VS Ivory on the left. Dobbs has a good even coating of dirt. Top photo is best to my estimation(slight adjustments). 2 & 4 are the camera's interpretation changed by altering the aspect ratio and slight exterior brightness change. #3 is probably objectively correct hues. Monitors of course vary...

Both are beautiful. The Dobbs is the same color as mine. Art does terrific work. His is a stunner. How soft is the Dobb's crown? Can that crease be popped out to an open crown easily with out any telegraphing? Sorry for the silly questions but I gotta know.

Crown is very soft but it was creased pretty tightly at the top edge. It pops out but there is a bit of usual distortion of the dome and some difference in dirt. I suspect it would smooth out fine with a cleaning.

It is a keeper. Even with the sweatband issue it is terrific.
I'm happy for you.

That's nice example of a mid- to late-'50s Dobbs Homburg you've got there. You said it's your birthday hat? Well, then, Happy Birthday!:eusa_clap
